"I asked Craig Stanley to come back but he didn't want to..."

Sammy Mac talking to Derek Quinn on Radio Lancs.

He also thought we were excellent, never had a bad feeling about today's game and was disappointed that we weren't in front by half time.

He comes back if we make him come back.

Think it is fair to say he has played his last game for Morecambe.

And would you rather be playing in the play-offs winning every week or fighting for survival losing at home every other week?!

as I understand the system we dont ask the player (our player!) we tell them to come back.

Be interesting to see if Stanners "tweets" anything on twitter.

If he doesn't want to come back then why would we want him back anyway?
If Sammy comment is 'true' then he the club should let him move on, does anyone even know the truth of what happened between Sammy and Stanley? If not why are they assuming Stanley is the one who has been treated badly?

Stanners was told he would be on the bench for a long period. The original deal was a straight transfer swap with Nicky Wroe. Hence made to accept subsequent loan deal. We didn't want Stanners, now he doesn't wasn't us. Who can blame him?

What planet is Sammy on? asking Craig to come back after telling him he isnt going to feature in Morecambes games for the forseeable future, and not going to get a contract next season. Not to forget how Torquay are doing. No wonder he turned him down.

It's the official interpretation. All the rumours were that Stanners left because he'd fallen out with Sammy and not for footballing reasons. As far as I understand Stanners and the club, and by that I mean Sammy, wanted those rumours quashed. So Stanners was given the opportunity to spell out on the club's official website why he left for Torquay. In there he states that things had improved with Sammy but that Sammy didn't think he would be getting first team football so should take the Torquay opportunity if they wanted him. This originally was the deal for Wroe, who like so many others, didn't fulfill his end of the bargain. Torquay wanted Stanners and Sammy needed to get players off the books to bring others in so the loan deal was organised. As I understand it the loan deal ends at the end of April and Stanners will miss their final game and any playoff matches, something he's stated omnhis Twitter feed.

I can't quote from the article because of the farce of the FLI mobile websites but I'm sure others can find the link.

Rumours on the other thread may have been true but these incidents are over a year old. Stanners should never have left in my view because he has all the personal, professional and footballing qualities so many others lack.

Some of the stanners stuff is true some not so much, Craig was told he wasn't in the managers plans and would be better if he found a new club. It just so happens that craigs agent is also the representative of torquays manager, there was never any transfer swap. It was a very sudden decision to get rid and at the time Torquay was the deal that was easiest to push through and obviously agreeable to all parties.

The statement by the manager is unwarranted and is unfair on Craig, forcing him to come back would be counter productive. With so little of the season left it would cause more harm than good making him return against his wishes.

Well he will be back. Loan ends at the end of April. He'll be back for at least one, possibly two matches.

Just supposing we beat Hereford on Easter Monday which mathematically guarantees our safety. Torquay then play on Friday 29th April, after which I presume he would come home?

We play on the Saturday so having played against Chesterfield (who are already Champions) the night before and set up the crucial winning goal with one of his pinpoint passes, Stanners would obviously (IMO) not play for us at Port Vale. This vital win for Torquay means that they would go to Rotherham for the last game needing a win to guarantee them a Play Off place.

Hypethetical of course, but i would expect a case to be made for him to stay on the South Coast a while longer 8-)

When Sammy says he asked Craig Stanley to come back I wonder if he asked him to come back and make up a full bench.
If he did I can understand Craig not being keen although he is our player and we could have recalled him without aking the player whether he wanted to return.

Picked up his 10th booking of the season yesterday which means he's suspended for the next 2 games.
