Mark Lillis post match thoughts

On The Bay in a couple of minutes after Blondie....

Bet he says 'plenty of effort, inspired goalkeeping, bad luck..etc etc etc..'

Truth is we are powder puff up front and unless we find a clinical striker we are..... :?: :?: :?:

Sorry, but it's a result based business and the truth of it is that we lost. End of!

we already have a proven goalscorer in jevons, we also have mullins hendrie and spencer but on a day like today and the statistics are there to prove it and they meet an inspired goalie it does not mean that signing another striker will get us any more goals than the above mentioned will when things start going for them

Agree, but none of them are scoring, and that's the problem.

Interestingly Hurst is a proven goalscorer at both Chesterfield and Carlisle when he's played in the middle. Carlisle fans reckon that that is his best position, and yet in games to date he's stayed on the wing, no doubt playing to the managers instructions.

Iam not disputing the fact that the two main strikers are not scoring but who can say that anyone else will do any better, 2main factors in us losing today was we had no Wilson and Holdsworty and Hendrie should have been brought on sooner than the 88minute yet again

But if you were at the Cheltenham game for example when Wison was playing and putting good crosses in , who was there to convert them . Nobody :x . The same problem as when Duffers was here putting in the same sort of quality cross , a good striker who can read a game knows whats coming from these wide players and gets in the right position to give himself a chance of scoring . Also if you remember against Cheltenham their striker had three 1 on 1's withe Roachey who stopped him every time , but when can anyone remember any of our strikers getting in those sort of situations recently. Same problem we have had for almost 2 seasons now . LACK OF PACE. ;)

I'm not sure a "proven goalscorer" is what we want/will get.

For starters, they are expensive and there aren't many of them so it's like saying "let's simply sign Leo Messi to solve our problems".

Also, Phil Jevons - isn't he something of a goalscorer? Ok, he isn't sharp right now but there is life in him still and it seems a waste to keep paying his wages and sign another player in the same mould.

Just my opinion but I think we've a better chance in going for a young player, unproven at this level. Goalscoring record isn't important - just find someone fast, strong and hungry who will at least do some running and inject some life into our front line.

the relegation dog fight is still a possibility as stockport have bucked their ideas up a bit, other than that...boredom, we are actually safe, and its as much as we deserve, some people on here think we are entitled to more than we can afford, love the okkers interlicks, must make the managers feel like winners

He played in the middle so much today, but that left a huge gap with no-one on the wing. I don't think he was meant to be in the middle that much.

As one of the "90" there today. i was shocked by the complacency of this interview. Football is about WINNING. We did indeed have the majority of the possession but apart from rattling the bar when it was far too late, we never looked like scoring. The first goal was a disgrace and points to a worrying lack of communication in the team at the moment. I think you can add to that a distinct lack of "fire2 and motivation. It's niot looking good you know....

Just back from an extended stay in Lincoln and was able to drown my sorrows last night. I tend to agree with Potted Shrimp. Both goals were a mess with a bad mistake releasing Grimes who scuffed it in and then being left alone in the area to score No.2. Yes we dominated the whole game with about 80 % of play in both halves but I was never convinced we could score. Our missed chances were abysmal and their goalkeeper was nothing more than ordinary, most of his saves being fairly routine. Another defeat against a poor team. I have little faith we can make it.
