subs or lateness of them.

subs or lateness of them.

Postby N Saban » Sat Jan 15, 2011 6:52 pm

i can't believe what i am seeing on a weekly basis.......... i came out of the globe today moaning and we won and it makes me feel a bit sick. I love Morecambe and Wilson is a legend but seriously how can sammy keep letting us get into these situations. surely everyone could see that after an hour the game was calling out for hendrie and fleming but yet he seemed content for a draw despite it being obvious that torquay were coming more and more into the game! then when we go 1-0 down he makes the subs and luckily today we got out of jail!!! 5 minutes for hendrie is not enough he should have started today. I am delighted we won and i am glad we are climbing up the table but i just feel the manager needs to be more proactive in games and try and win them from the start rather than being negative and setting out always not to lose!

Agreed great result and very much deserved, but for me the subs were brought on too late....at 0-0 30 mins to go you need to change the shape to provide that last bit ummpphhh!!! Anyways well done to the players today you were a credit to the club you battled on and got the result that we deserved!!

At 0-0 he did not even have any subs warming up apart from Fleming for a bit. He was playing and happy for the draw again at home. He is clueless and got lucky today.

We definitely needed to freshen things up and should have had subs on earlier particularly since Torquay had played in mid week and had had to endure there longest away trip of the season. Good job we got out of jail.

Jon Newby situation again. End of.

Put the bloody subs on in time for them to have an effect on the game. Not with ~5 minutes left so they don't get chance to settle in to the pace of play. Madness.

Trying to lump the ball down the middle doesnt work. This team does have some decent ball players and it was proved when the subs were made. The game just took a new format spreading out wide,Duffy looke out of sorts and then wam bam he was the man .This team will do buisness played right and it was all very rewarding and a enjoyable victory, great never say die attitude. The Shrimps are looking up and not behind them anymore well done to all :D :D :D

Mullin should have started on the bench today, won very few headers and due to his lack of pace was unable to get into positions that would hurt Torquay. For a big man, his touch on the floor is good, but he has lost that half a yard of pace which you need in his position. Regarding the late subs, Torquay were well on top long before they scored, so why SMc waited until after they scored to change things around, only he will know. Hopefully, for the next game, he will start with either Fleming or Hendrie, but knowing SMc he will start with the same team that started today. Anyway, to sum it up, even first half, Torquay the better team in the second half until the substitutions, two penalties, 3 points.

id be tempted to play Shuker & Duffy in the next game upfront and put Brown or Wainwright in the right midfield slot

He in a way has a point though Ockers, the game was crying out for a sub. Credit where credit is due though we won the game and that is all that matters.

I think it is the negativity of the post that is annoying, how can anyone be angry after that?

Ockers i will try to take a deep breath lol i was suprised when i came out of the ground that i felt that way after such a valuable win and wilson's excellent penalities. It's just annoying watching a game drift by with no sense of urgency to win , until that is we fall behind it is a regular pattern in most of the games we play!

The frustrating thing is when Mullins is in the team we play hoof football and it doesn't work. With Shuker and Hendrie all the players know that putting it the air would be a waste of time, so they play it on the deck. And thats where we are at our best. Mulls plays his heart out week in and week out but in my opinion a few weeks on the bench would see our game become far more attractive to watch and get fans coming back through the turnstiles. 1600+ isnt very c=good for a team heading for the Play Offs

Out of interest, Ockers, had we not got lucky and got 2 penalties right at the death, would you have been saying the same thing? It just goes to show how tight the margins can be in football (or indeed all sports). Sammy has been head scratching trying to find the right formula for half a season. That doesn't really suggest he knows what he's doing. He may be getting close to finding it but is it really the sign of a quality manager that it takes so long? He's right that it is a marathon so let's see where we end up come May.

Moaning after 3 wins on the bounce? No need.

Sounds to me like some kids must have made some substitutions on Champ Manager and won the game 3-0 so now think that they're better managers than Sammy. Get a grip.

I don't really think that's the case at all. More that some think he's better at his job than others. Some go OTT in the arse licking, some go OTT in the arse kicking. All want the same thing.

penalties or not we were losing today and being outplayed in front of a very small crowd till the last five minutes glad we won, but 1641 attendance is a bit of a shamefull turnout from the town, where are the folk that look on here but do not attend the matches :?:

I am a season ticket holder and didn't go today and I could give you 101 reasons why I didnt go mainly because I am really hacked off with the football club. We could go into all my issues but we would be here all night so prob best we didn't and it's not just to do with the football on the pitch. So if me a season ticket holder of 15 years didn't bother to turn up what chance have we got in getting paying people coming through the gates.

For me that is the danger of today. Dont get me wrong, good win, 3 on the bounce all good etc. However, as he said against Accy, too many home games this year have had draw written all over em. BE PROACTIVE Sammy, dont react when its too late. Today, fair play, good selection, good tactics, however Fleming...and maybe Hendrie should have been on to make the difference BEFORE we went behind. I wasn't there today, someone tell me diifferently but i get the feeling we got lucky!?
