Can't recall the exact situation with it, but I recall walking into Christie on Boxing Day 1986 for a home game with Mossley and the roof had gone !! I didn't even have a clue it HAD been removed prior to seeing a lack of it, or even knowing it was due to be removed !!
I think it had something to do with the fact it had asbestos actually in the roofing sheets and the council deemed it unsafe.
