These next 2 pictures bring back many happy memories of the stand we had BEFORE the North Stand was built. And before it's roof was removed of course ......

In all it's original, fantastic GLORY. Many happy hours spent under here. Was gutted when the roof went.

Good pictures there Seasider. Shame there were not too many ground photos through the ages in Quinny's book.

I have a geeky fascination with the evolution of football grounds you see!

I have quite a few black and white photo's at home somewhere ("somehere" !! Famous last words ......unless Mrs Seasider has "filed" them in B1N) of matches at Christie Park in the 1988/89 season. I need to try and get them scanned actually and posted up on here.

Particularly, loads of photo's from the midday FA Cup clash v. Barra' in October '88.

That's my mission for the weekend. Get them sorted out !!!!!

I've got a huge box of photos in a cupboard somewhere. It contains a few from around '86/'87 when I bought my first SLR camera and was learning to use it. I took it to a few games, I'll have to look for them and scan them sometime (the football ones were awful!)

Old photo's like these from the 80's are in short supply, without a doubt.

I would be more than interested to see your photo's Keith mate please. Was it Jim Dodgson who used to take a load of photo's at every match as well ?

I know for a fact Quinny struggled to get many for his book.

Should start a sticky thread of pics from CP through the ages. I can contribute a few from the mid 1990s including a full house Vs a Man Utd XI.

Must have been a tragedy when they took the roof off the home end. Bet you got a decent atmosphere under that rickety low roof when a good few hundred turned up. Remember it being dead down that end until the North Stand got built.

Out of interest, does anyone know why the club built a fairly large roof at the Christie Ave end but until the late 1990s never had any terracing!

As I recall, it was to avoid a tragedy... they took it down before it fell on someone's head! Didn't we lose part of it in a storm?

It was the old Auxiliary Club that built the Christie Avenue end. I guess the reason was the simple one... money?

Seasider9601 - "Gutted when the roof went" - it seemed to go all by itself as I remember !! Great photos though, bring back some memories. It is easy to forget what the ground looked like before the North Stand - when the ball used to be hit over the top, if it hit the roof bits fell down on your head !!!!!!!!

Think you are wrong there Seasider...

The wall that was built to the rear of the Car Wash can be seen in the picture. It was extended when the Aux Club was demolished and turned into the away car park.

Oooops..too much booze this pm...It's ME that's wrong when I read your post again!

Was intended from day 1 to have terracing from front to back. But the demise of the Aux Club and a general apathy at the time towards the football club was catalyst in it never being developed in the way that we had hoped.

I seem to recall that it was about that time when the club was very, very close to winding up. If it had not been for the input of new blood onto the Board and the introduction of a more Commercially minded set up, I doubt we would now be complaing about the MBW et al!

In many ways the move to The Arena has provided stability similar to that described above. Funny old world, 'cause even way back then there was some unrest amongst the fans about the new commercial attitude of our club....
