Amateur Boxing Charity Night at the Globe Arena

Hi all,

In my role as Treasurer of Lancaster Boys and Girls Club I'm organising an Amateur Boxing Night at the Globe Arena on Wednesday 1st December.

The club has recently lost over £20,000 in annual income thanks to Lancashire County Council cutting all funding plus the loss of two major grant funders, so we're obviously looking to replace that income. Thankfully we successfully bid for £10,000 for Children In Need funding but we still need to do a lot more. With hundreds of young people using the club all day and every evening we provide a vital service to the community.

The event is a black tie / posh suits dinner show with three course meal, the boxing and more, and is a cracking good night out. Boxing includes two England youth internationals, and if we can match him up, a Commonwealth Gold medallist.

We've got a few individual places left at £40 and three tables for 10 at £400.

We're incredibly grateful to NatWest, Moore & Smalley, Morecambe FC, Bathtime UK, Bob Howard Builders, Lingwood Security and many others who've already booked a table.

I love the fact that someone has put a great big flash defuser on the flash unit! Like 'yeah, I'm expecting lots of very artistic shots of half naked girls at the jelly wrestling evening'. You've not seen the defuser yet? No? Keep looking... give it a few minutes... Now you've noticed she's got eyes you'll start to notice other things in the image... just give it time...

Must admit, I hate boxing but hope you have a very successful night Mike, for some reason, volunteering to do something good in the community is almost always more thankless than doing nothing and whinging!

I'd like to echo that Michael, an absolutely brilliant night of entertainment, the food and service were first class and the venue was awesome. all credit to you and everyone else for all your hard work for such a superb cause, I hope the event managed to raise lots of money for the boys and girls club.

Just short of 200. Yes good attendance considering the weather. I bagged a signed Ricky Hatton glove

Good night , good entertainment from some very fit young kids and some older ones too . Would have prefered a friday night myself with having to get up at 5 during the week then i could have gone home wet on the inside instead of the outside. . Thats what happens when the person sat next to you gets so excited when a girl boxer jumps into the ring.

Thanks Mark, Darren and Dave for coming along. I had a stinking cold and was in a complete panic most of the night but all seemed to go well. Full house bar about six or seven who couldn't make it for weather reasons.

Hoping we'll make between £3,000 and £4,000 if we don't get any surprise bills.
