If reading this post you feel you are too clever to limit yourself to one album, the idea is , as a body of work ,not a greatest hits album by your favorite bunch of musos, what can you stick your cans on and lose yourself to , so i will say

KID A , BY Radiohead, a total masterpiece :!:

theres loads! but my two personal favorites are as follows

for me most albums only have one or two songs on a album what are good but the Joshua tree by U2(every track is shit hot)

and plus the Stone Roses first album who from the late 80s when you had cheesy bands were the pioneers of modern music now and even Noel Gallagher said we wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for the Stone Roses we so much wanted to be like em!

Agree with both, but for me it's X & Y by Coldplay

Good call Dawzi with The Stone Roses; The Stone Roses. I still listen to that from time to time and it is brilliant. There are only a few albums where you are not constantly flicking through filler tracks, that is definitely one of them.

I will stick my neck out a little bit and go for one that isnt a safe or obvious option. It will immediately cause you to smile and maybe even shake your head a little, but it is an unsung masterpiece that the artist in question never acheived before or in the long years since.

Befor you criticise or deride, listen to the album, it is a poignant masterpiece that is still as relevant now as it was 20 years ago when it was written with the background of the original Gulf War and when the writer was clearly going through personal anguish. 'Mother's Talk' gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. 'Praying For Time' was 20 years ahead of its time.

The album?

Listen Without Prejudice Vol I - George Michael

Go and listen to it! ;)

Listen to #1 by Fischerspooner, pretentious in a totally different way to Kid A is but still great in a similar way. You'll like it if you like Kid A.

My fave, Revolver by The Beatles

Pendulum - Immersion, going to see the album tour in December.
Apart from that maybe The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die or Fat of the Land

I'll change my mind tomorrow probably, but for me its either:

Arcade Fire - Funeral

or

Mansun - Six

Although I haven't listened to anything but Twin Shadow's "Forget" for the last two months (http://twinshadow.net/), best thing I've heard for a long while.

Absolute QUALITY album Harry. Every single track. (By the way, it's "Mother's Pride" the one about the Gulf War.) Absolutely LOVE this album and still play it in the car even now. "Cowboys and Angels" is my personal favourite from the album with "Waiting For That Day" a close second.

Another favourite album of mine would be by Fleetwood Mac. Tango In The Night. Favourite Track on there HAS to be "Little Lies."

You are correct of course about Mother's Pride! Getting mixed up with an old Tears For Fears song (showing my age there!)

Cowboys and Angels is outstanding.

Glad of this thread just put LWP back in my car. :D
