Interesting article.

Does anyone know if our badge was changed to enable the club to take all proffits from merchandise, and did we have to pay royalties so to speak for using the towns crest?

@MancShrimp

Search box in the top right corner - lots of info / debate that will answer all your questions. Let's not go through all that again, eh?

The main reason for the badge change was because all copyrights belong to the town hall and not the club. With the amount of merchandise we now have it was the only way we could properly brand our stuff.

The new bage is growing on me though....

The town crest didn't belong to anyone for a long time but late 2009 the new town council took steps to re-take ownership of it. Once they owned it, they could protect it and/or charge for it's use. The sad trend the Guardian refers to in our case is that of anyone and everyone taking every opportunity to earn some money.
