Devitt was a great player, very talented and I expected him to move up a few levels, but he just seems to wander from club to club.....
Would love him back at Morecambe

Too many injuries probably curtailed his career sadly. Also when a player shines at MFC then leaves they never seem quite as good!

It doesn’t surprise me. Vadaine is a confidence player in the extreme reflecting the success of the team.

At York he’d be immense in some games when they were doing well but then as they headed for relegation is head dropped below ground level.

I remember Cambridge away in his last season and he was slow, lethargic and barely involved. Ritchie Bennett came on and he worked his nuts off and held up their back line. Yet you watch Vadaine at Gills and he plays like Bennett did and gives them a ton of options.

An enigma.

A large part of it is that we just played him in completely wrong.

When it comes to winning aerial duels and bullying defenders in the air, there are few strikers better than him at this level. The trouble was we never had anybody around to utilise the space he'd create as he was a very isolated frontman in quite a negative team.

He was far more effective when partnered with Collins, who scored so many goals due to either being partnered with Bennett or Oliver. Oliver/Campbell as a front two was a partnership that JB probably should have given a proper chance to.

At Northampton, he generally had more players around him to basically reap the benefits of his 'donkey work', and I presume it's probably similar with Gillingham. Whereas Stockton has been more successful with us operating as a lone target man, as he's a player who is better able to trap the ball and hold it up for a few seconds while team mates arrive up the pitch.

The difference between then and now is that we have players within 10 yards of Cole feeding off his knock downs and hold up play. Oliver was so isolated it was untrue. He was dealing with punts forward and 2 centre halves on his case everytime. LS is spot on again, V was misused in a horrible system.

He will have been pi$$ed off with that. It won’t have helped the cause, in their first defeat all season.
