No doubt he'll get a welcome home from their fans. Hope it works out for him.

If as rumoured we've signed a certain wing man replacement who has a far superior goal scoring record when with Shrewsbury then we have a more than adequate replacement.

Carlisle have got four trialists in at the moment and have done the unprecedented thing and named them all which is quite unusual

Wish him well BUT to say he wanted to be closer to his family stinks a wee bit when its 2 hours by car from his Sheffield base, not much different travelling to Morecambe and stinks even more when he moved his family to live near Leyland.....

He has done well to get League football again and wish him the best. If he has to drive 4hrs a day to find work, fair play to him.

YouTube short interview with Oliver

Doubt it will appease RR too much - apparently he's never been at a club with ambition to climb the league before!

As I said I wish him well but he's under performed at nearly every club he's been at, so can't see him being any different under the former Carlisle manager.

Having said that what's the betting he'll score one of his very rare goals v us.... :?:

According to Keith Curle, "other teams haven't used him effectively and got the best out of his talents... the teams he's been at haven't been on the front foot and used him well in attacking positions regularly enough". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BM5aMvcFTE0.

Good luck with that Keith. If it wasn't for Macclesfield and Bury they'd now be one of my relegation favourites.

Keith Curle is right when he says Big V has some attributes. It is just a shame that these are a 50p head and a touch like Jack the Ripper

I’m surprised he’s found himself a league club. I don’t think we’ve lost out but good luck to him.

I can't help but feel like we didn't see the best of Oliver. He played his best football and scored the most goals at York when playing on the right of a front three, we never tried him there to my knowledge. Good luck to him, maybe Curle has it in mind to try him there.

Agree with most of what's been said here.

As Posh says, if Keith Curle thinks he can get him firing then good on you Pep G, but I think Jim played him nearly to the expense of his job last year. I'm not sure what KC has planned that Jim didn't try?

His inability to trap the ball or head in his desired direction are pretty detrimental attributes to his role as a target man or number 9.

I can’t help feeling this is nonsense. Oliver’s most prolific spell at York, according to my York supporting friend, was in a front two alongside Jon Parkin in the Conference. He said he never played in a front
three.

This is what the York Press made of Vadaine in the Football League;

Vadaine Oliver

Of initial value to the team under Wilcox when the team’s approach was more direct and he showed a desire to flick on regular aerial balls forward. Once that passion seemingly disappeared, though, he cut a lethargic figure up front. A return of one goal from his last 22 games of the season saw fans boo his second-half introduction on the final day at Morecambe.

Appearances: 36 (6); Goals: 10. Rating:2/10

His record didn’t improve with us and it was fractionally better in Conference North.

If he does well at Northampton it’ll eat my proverbial hat.
