If it's the Nick I think it is, I'm shocked. A quiet sort of fellow but a loyal and long serving follower of the club.

Chris (age 26) was killed at work on Friday night at Heysham 1 Power Station.
It is incredible that having spent 6 years in the army, he was on the first tank into Iraq and then this... He was an avid Morecambe fan. With this in mind all his friends, which are many, are going to wear some item of RED. We are trying at the moment to locate club ties but obviously the club are waiting for the new logo ones. If any one can help with the loan of either ties or club scarves please pm me.

Regards, Mike (Chris's Dad)

Mike,

I've known Chris for nearly 3 years, getting to know each other through various courses at work. Most recently a 3 year course we had started together.

I was gutted when I found out at weekend, I couldn't believe what had happened :(

You couldn't meet a nicer lad of our age group. He didn't have a single bad bone in him. There's not many people I can say that about who are a similar age to myself.

Deepest condolences to you all.

Simon

Just to confirm, for those that asked, that Nick Sutcliffe IS the fan who often travelled with the Shrimps Supporters (the Officials as some put it). Sadly but I do not have a photo of him to offer.

There is an earlier thread about this, by the way, of a few messages. Nick's funeral was yesterday attended by several fans and Rod taylor from the Football Club.

Tragic - there is no other word for it. Especially for Chris, after going through all he has. I am tearing up over here, despite not knowing him personally, we are such a small and tight knit family club. No words can suffice. My thoughts are with both families.

Hola All,
This is a big big thank you to all at Morecambe Football Club, Directors, staff, friends and fans for all your support during the passing of Chris Cowan............. He had a great send off and over 500 people attended his funeral yesterday (Friday 23/7/10). It was so good to see so many people in Morecambe FC kit and wearing something RED. We have started a collection in is memory in aid of Help for Heroes. Chris was a member of HM Armed Forces and served in Iraq when the invasion started in 2003.He was in the first Tank to cross in to Iraq bound for Basrah.
We intend to organize a Charity ball at the Globe Arena either later this year or early next year in aid of Help for Heroes and in Chris's memory.

Thank you once again Mike & Christine Cowan and all the family

Many thanks for the update San, it is always a sad time to lose a member of the morecambe family as has been said. I'm sure the local community and MFC supporters would be honoured to be at an event that celebrates the life of one of our own and contributes to continuing tributes to those who serve our country. I'll be there come what may.
