O/T The end of 11 players per team?

With the European Commission proposing to do away with the standard British tradition of selling eggs either in dozens / half dozens and replacing it with sales of either 10 or 5, it's been suggested that the usual 11 a-side teams in football and cricket be replaced in time by 10 a-side teams. This will require international consent but if the bureaucrats get their way it could happen. It is their intention to standardise in all matters relating to quantity by using multiples of 5 as the standard unit of measurement. Longer term, the minimum and maximum size of playing areas will also be standardised which will require considerable off the field investment in the remodelling of stadia.

;)

I think its a shame these beaurocrats are so over worked having to contemplate such important matters regarding egg packaging! Will this mean more hens on the dole? smaller coups? The end of "cheaper by the dozen" will mean the OED will have to reprint its editions! The ramifications are seemingly endless!! Will it also mean a 10 month year?? :?: The end of cricket as we know it? Will twelfth night be banned??

Good old EU bureaucrats. Wasting our time and money to deliberately destroy our Great British traditions.

Of course if it were true (part 769). The EU proposal is that all food products should be sold by weight as the primary measure. This then gives a fair pricing policy.

Of course France sell eggs by the dozen and actually in Britain we divide up by the eggs by small, medium, large and extra large to apply another level of purchasing choice. So under this proposal eggs would still be sold in packs of half a dozen or a dozen just with the weight on.

Of course this is only a proposal and is out to consultation with EU member states. It is years from becoming legislation.

Right I'm off to burn a copy of the Daily Mail.

i never use up 6 eggs, in the netherlands i used to see packs of 4 which makes more sense IMHO. not that it's any more metric!
