My oldest sister (and big Shrimps fan) is on the Sydney leg of her grand world tour. Should she pay the big bucks to do the Harbor Bridge climb or what else should she spend her time / money on?

I've never been but no doubt locals and tourists on here can offer advice. Please.

I have done the Harbor bridge climb and it was well worth the money

I'll be there in February next year so the advice will be welcome.....

As well as whatever Aspers advises, get hold of the Lonely Planet Guide.
Have a coffee in David Campese's cafe down the Harbour.
Be careful where you change your money, and it's a crap exchange rate anyway.
Have a look at http://www.Tripadvisor.com/Sydney.
Have a look at the Thorntree Forum on Lonely Planet.
Visit the Blue Mountains (easy day trip) by train, and well worth the effort.
Have a meal at the Fish Market.
Take a ferry or three from the Harbour.
Go to Melbourne. It's cheaper, and that's where Ned Kelly came from.
Chinatown is in Bangkok!
Don't say to an Aussie, "What do call an intelligent Australian?", or "Any idea what the west island of NZ is called?"
Ask you aircraft pilot to do a couple of loops over Sydney Harbour, it's cheaper than climbing the Bridge.

and if you take a 1hr drive up the coast north of Sydney to a place called palm beach thats where they film home & Away and you can catch them filming most week days


oh and surprisingly the property is fairly cheap there(well was in 2007) you could pick up a small 2/3 bed house for about £100.00-ish and it's seriously gorgeous round there

From Circular Quay take the catamaran to Watson Bay.

Basically Sydney is very cosmopolitan. On arrival, me and Doris jumped in a cab, and the driver was a sikh with an oz accent. Great for a few days, Melbourne was better value, and Adelaide more Australian (whatever that is!).

Before she thinks about doing the climb, tell her to pop into the Lord Nelson which isn't too far away , where they have great food and brew their own beer. . Darling Harbour is a nice area to visit, as is Fox Studios where there are some nice shops for the Ladies and restaurants , and she may come across a rare beast in that area who could be wearing a ....Morecambe Shirt.

I replied to this on my mobile but obviously it didn't workj so here goes again.
The many suggestions so far are all excellent except they do breath test you for alcohol before the bridge climb!!.
The ferry from Circular Quay to Manly is very inexpensive and a walk along the courso to the Pacific is lovely.
Hellish wet and rainy here with floods everywhere at the moment.
A good time, is a trip to the Hunter Valley for a wine tasting experience (2 hrs outside Sydney).
I'm at Fox studios tomorrow (My Sat all day) if she wants a quick tour get her to call me on 0433785186, nowt really to see, I'm free after 2.30. Great fresh food market but the rain is here to stay for a while.
