New Badge

Now we have had the "End of an Era" and Christie Park is more or less no more, and we've seen things being auctioned or sold off, I presume that it's out with the old and in with the new.

So when, officially, does the new badge become the official MFC crest?

Said it before, I'm not a fan of the new badge, it reminds of the sort of generic badge they use in football management games, when they don't have the rights to use the club crest.

The existing badge looks for more classy, but well I supose its new...

I saw the new shop on Victoria Street today, and the shop has a sign above it which has the new badge...

So maybe the process is starting...

Although the new crest has been announced and is available to view via various routes, it doesn’t become “official” until the end of the current season.

Therefore in respect for the current crest I would suggest that you contact me again at the end of the season and I will be happy to send you the relevant artwork. This should give you plenty of time to organise production in time for the opening of the Globe Arena.

This was a reply I got when i asked for Art Work For getting a flag made, So looking at that Its now as the end of the season has come and gone?

I agree

people might say it's being negative but I hate it...

the Original badge is much more interesting... maybe it's outdated but it's historical

the new one is just a shrimp.

I'm biased but your comments are inaccurate.

Firstly for the majority of the club's history it used no crest at all. Morecambe FC's first crest was a shrimp back in the early 1960's and the new crest picks up strongly from that theme. So as far as the club is concerned its more historically relevant than the current crest.

The current crest was borrowed and now with the arrival of Morecambe Town Council cannot be used except on a license basis from its formal owners Lancaster City Council, meaning the trademark is unprotected.

You say the current crest is much more interesting but which one of the eight different versions that were on display at Christie Park? No one 'owned' or even had a copy of the original crest.

Additionally no one knew what type of boat was on the logo or where it originated from; the rose is the House of Lancaster and used on several football clubs logos; the primary colours were yellow and blue; and finally it had been used for less than 30% of the club's history.

All down to taste really. I don't really like the new one but there'll also be people that love it. Whatever the design was going to be there would be a proportion of people moaning about it.

I've seen it and it's more interesting...

At the end of the day it's not the most important thing... I won't love them any less just the badge

There are plenty of teams who use versions of the town/city crest without any major issues. Manchester City do, and have done, intermittently for a relatively short part of their history. Lancaster City Council (which still grates) may well own the crest, but they could easily allow, without license, MFC to use part of it as we have done for a number of years now with the most recent being my particular favourite.
My own opinion is that the club has opted for an easy, rather than the best, route to go dwn on this and considering we don't exactly get hounded by badge/t-shirt/scarf/any other dodgy crap sellers on our way to a game, the argument about being able to have ownership over the new one is largely redundant.
The new one is just a "use this shape and fill in the blanks" piece of garbage which has cut links with the town and local traditions which were a welcome observation by many. The new one shows a shrimp.
Fab.

Personally, I quite like the shrimp. However, I'd have liked to have seen a little more from the badge. I'm all for simplicity, I just think this was taken a little bit too literally!

Maybe they could have changed the background behind the shrimp to emulate the red rose, or incoporated 'Est. 1920' or something like that, just to give it something extra.

Here you go:

I live in Gosport (nicknamed 'Turk Town'), which is across the harbour from Pompey. In the late 19th century a couple of Turkish naval ships were anchored in the harbour, most of their crew caught some nasty disease and died. They are all buried in a lovingly maintained local cemetary.

Fab indeed, when you consider that shrimping has long been a local tradition linked with the town....

Lancaster City Council (which still grates) may well own the crest

It was assumed that the Lancaster City Council held authority for its use. This is not the case and since the amalgamation of the former Borough Of Morecambe and Heysham with Lancaster the crest has been “dormant”. Therefore no one currently has authority over it nor permission to use it. The town Council are in correspondence with the College of Arms to have the crest resurrected but this will be at a cost estimated in the region of £2,500.

MFC probably had no idea whether the new council would protect the crest or allow it's use and whether they would charge or not. New ground, new logo, no dependence on Morecambe Town Council. A good move.

I cant believe we are still having the debate!

We didnt own the rights. Morecambe Town Council are now using it (I had a leaflet for a music festival sponsored by Morecambe Town Council given to me with the crest on) and I wouldnt trust them not to get funny about it when they have finished squabbling and back stabbing with each other!

We are The Shrimps.

I am proud to be a Shrimp and proud to display it on my chest.

Cant wait for the new kit! :D
