Thoughts on Saturday, Players, Management, Fans & the board

Postby Morecambe Player » Mon May 03, 2010 11:27 am

Saturday's game will be an epic, and if you haven't got your ticket yet, then there is still time, but don't delay.

But what do you think will be the players, management, fans and the board's approach to the game will be?

There are various likely scenarios of course. From the players perspective, they know a draw will be enough. Indeed, if we keep a clean sheet, we're in the play offs. So might they have the attitude of "Keep Aldershot out and we're there" ? On the other hand, they might think that a win will take us above Aldershot and that all important home tie in the second leg. We might even finish 4th.

What about Sammy and Mark? Will they be ultra cautious, not wanting to lose, and wanting to make sure of a play off place, before thinking of anything grander and making sure we don't go too gung ho and end up losing?

What about the fans? How do you think we should play it?

What about the board of directors? They know that there is extra money for places, so the higher you go, the more you win. I spoke to the Chairman after the Shrewsbury game, so I know what he thinks, but I'm not going to publicise it here.

Do you think that the players, management, fans and the board all have the same thoughts about how we should go about it? Or do you think that opinion is split?

I think as a whole we should go for it.
Fans, Players, Managment and Board.

4th place in league 2 in only our 3rd season would be something very historic, and something that everybody would/should/could be proud of.

Personally we should go for it and try and grab 4th spot...with rotherham having tricky game at hereford we have big chance to do so - if you said at xmas we would be fighting for 4th spot everyone on this board would have taken that big time

commen sense tells you to play it tight as a draw is enough but! we all know Morecambe ask for trouble when we sit back playing to defensive

and we always seem at our best defensively when playing attacking football but that could be our downfall :?

am just wondering if SM is thinking of playing 5 defenders with the wing-back system just for this one as we have no natural wingers but do have Wilson & Wainwright who know how to play them roles and get good balls into the box for big fella and his aerial ability

Just play our normal game. No point messing about just for one game. However if we are up halfway through the second then bring the extra defender on just like Saturday.

I for one, think that going into any game playing for a draw is a very very dangerous thing to do ( see last five years of results managed by one Rafael Benitez for prime example). We could have gone in looking for a draw on saturday at Shrewsbury, but we came out all guns blazing and kept looking for the win even when at 2-2. I've heard lots of people say we're not ready for league one, or we shouldn't try and win the play-offs or variations on the same theme. Well you don't get to choose when you're successful in football, if it comes our way it comes and we'll have deserved it. I think home advantage in the second leg will be huge, so lets go out and give it a right go. we should never secumb to fear, all FEAR is: False Expectations Appearing Real.

Let's go and do it.

Why change? we've gone for the win from the off in our last 2 games, both against tough opposition and won. Do it again please Sammy, the 12th man will be behind the team all the way, and will only get louder if we play the attacking football that we've been doing lately.

come on you shrimps

I think everyone connected with the club will see this the same way, we have to go for it, Aldershot will not turn up just to play out a non competitive draw.

Of course if we get down to the last ten minutes or so and its even then the natural instincts of the players will be to not concede a goal and start to sit deeper, that could be a very dangerous scenario hopefully one that we wont have to endure.

The people who normally sing will be in good voice but it would be great if we could get more to join in so come on everybody forget your inhibitions and sing the team on to victory.

We just have to play the way we have in recent games, and attack whenever we get the opportunity.
If we just try and scrap it out for the draw, we will come unstuck.
I am not a Man Utd fan, but I often think they have the right attitude to games,that is, always attack when you can in games, after all, two thoughts spring to mind:
If we have the ball,the opposition cannot score
attack is the best means of defence.
It will be Exciting,it will be Emotional,but let's hope we get Everything at the End!!!

Common sense says to go for it against a team with little to play for and were at home and if we go for the win the chances are we will win as were at our best attacking not defending.
Hopefully it wont matter if we lose ;)
Get over it ;)

If we can stop Dean and Marvin Morgan then we'll get a result however we approach the game. And that counts for the playoffs too!

I think they will as 4th or 5th would get them a 2nd leg at home as well.

Just go for it.

Defend and we could loose it all.

To get 5th even 4th would be a fantastic achievement. To have the second leg of any play off game at home would be a fitting way to bring down the final curtain on CP.

Potentialy last game at Christie;

Play off off spot achievelable;

Possible last game of season;

BIGGEST game of season;

BIGGEST home gate of season;

New stadium and chance to play in league in 1;

THIS IS DREAM WORLD!

There is only one approach for a professional football team

PLAY TO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are at home - everything is with us - as has been said earlier if we sit back we invite trouble - look at Saturday - we go two up and there was only one team in it.......then we sit back a bit and invite them on - and we start chanting 'can we play you every week' DOH! - why do Morecambe fans ALWAYS start singing songs appropriate for the last 10 mins as soon as we get ahead -shrimps are going up, Wembley, Easy, Easy, My Garden Shed blah, blah - after 20 minutes!!!!!!!!! - it makes me cringe as you just know football is full of twists and turns and we NEVER do it the easy way so why tempt fete?

We can do this but we MUST treat this game as MUST WIN - chillax anyway as I'm sure Sammy knows this and I'm sure he will have the boys in the right frame of mind and will want to win this game and take no chances

We can beat Aldershot at home if we play to our strenghts - if we play for a draw and get beat then what? - if we play to win and get a draw.............

A few weeks ago Sammy McIlroy admitted we can only really play one way and that is to attack. I see no reason to change that philosophy at this late stage.

I would agree that 'going for it' is more likely to be successful than attempting to 'keep it tight'.

So how did that work out then?

Got to go for the win. Play for a draw and one moment of brilliance from them or madness from us could see it vanish in a second.

Fourth or fifth gets the play off return leg at home.

I'm sure that'll be what Aldershot will be going for.
