Team selection for Saturday...

.. Hackney's arrival makes it even more interesting than usual.

The temptation, I suppose is to go with two out and out wingers, Hackney left and Duffy right.

I wouldn't if I'm honest. I'd use Hunter on the right and bring Duffy off the bench after about 70 minutes.

I think two wingers in a 4-4-2 leaves you open to being overrun in central midfield. Garry can get involved in there a bit more effectively than Duffs.

Then pick any two out of Drummy, Stanners and Manny for the other midfield places.

I wonder if Jevons - who has looked slightly off the pace in the last few games - still has a bit of a niggling injury since the Accy game?

If so then I could make a case for resting him and Duffy playing in 'the hole' behind Mullin. Duffs has played really well in some recent games but has been most effective when drifting inside. He doesn't have the blistering pace to get round his fullback but can show his skill on the edge of the box where defenders have to be careful about their tackles.

I'd go with:

Roche

Parrish, Haining, Bentley, Wilson

Hunter, then any two from Panther/Stanners and Drummy, Hackney

Jevons (or Duffy if Jev's not 100%) Mullin.

Would agree with your selection up to a point.

Personally I feel we need a defensive minded midfielder in there. So I'd go with Panther at the expence of Stanners. Let Drummy control the central areas with Gaz doing the fetching and carrying.

Up front it's PJ and PM for me with Simon creating problems for their defence with his speedy runs.

How many of us realise that the current squad only has 6 remaining players who where on the books at the time of the promotion final?

Name 'em..... ;)

Good shout.

I personally wonder will Darren Moss keep his place on Saturday because we are going to get more tougher matches coming up. And i don't know how well Darren played on Saturday vs Bournemouth.
What do u think Moss or Wilson ?

Duffy or Hackney ( Hackney downs call me a taxi)

id go 4 4 2

Roach

Moss Haining Parrish Wilson

Duffy/Wainwright ? ? Hackney

Mullin Jevons

its a poor do if two central midfielders cant even protect a back four allowing wingers two play and for the team to play attacking football and win matches

if we cant then in the summer id find some midfielders who can(although ive faith in ours ;) )

Yes

Moss did well against Port Vale.

A number of papers made Darren our best player in the game at Bournemouth. I think Parrish could develop into a really good central defender and he has some pace which Jim doesnt have now.

It gives our back 4 an average age of 25.

Sounds great in principle but not many teams play with two out and out wingers - and for good reason.

Jevons Mullin
Hackney Drummond Hunter Duffy
Wilson Haining Bentley Parrish
Roche

Hunter to protect the back four with Drummond sitting deep and directing play out wide. Panther and Wainwright to come on as legs tire.

Haven't a clue mate. I just thought he looked a bit laboured in the last two games I've seen him play, then people say he was off the pace on Saturday as well. He still managed to bag one against Port Vale but that was about it from him in that game and he didn't look quite as mobile.

On the team line-ups I still think including Duffs AND Hackney in midfield leaves us very light.

One or the other, with Gary on the right, still gives us good attacking options and if we can then put two out of Manny, Drummy and Stanners in there as well to give us a bit more solidity.

That would be my choice anyway.

If Duffy IS in there (assuming Hackney's a cert to start) then, for me, it'd be in the hole behind a striker, with a free rein.

Sammy may think that two wingers is the way to go at home against a side near the bottom, though.

Interesting anyway.

I can't believe some people are putting Duffy upfront, why?

If Jevons is unfit then i would go with the 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation.

Roche

..Parrish..Haining..Bentley..Wilson

........Drummond..Hunter..Stanley
..Duffy............................Hackney
..................Mullin

However i would play Lawro Wilson left wing every week if i was Sammy, but i'm not

Lawro was on the wing at Cheltenham and was awful. Okay, so were most Morecambe players that day, but he just didn't look natural or comfortable compared to normal. Left back with Hackney in front of him is the obvious set up with Lawrence overlapping at times.

Wilson is our League 2 answer to Ashley Cole i.e. an attack-minded full-back who is far better utilised as thus. Playing on the wing negates the surprise factor, which seems to be when he's most effective.
