Just heard tonight from a friend of Gerry's wife that he has suffered a heart attack and is at the moment in Blackpool hospital.
I remember Gerry as the Morecambe "Trainer" in the 60's as he ran at breakneck speed onto the pitch to revive any injured Morecambe player with the magic sponge full of freezing cold water - that soon got them up and running!!!!
Our thoughts and wishes from all at the York go out to Gerry and his family and we hope he can recover from this to see the new ground open in the summer.
Get well soon Gerry

I remember watching him play during the 60's and later become our trainer. A great player and a popular Christie Park legend.
Hope you get well soon Gerry.

I went to see Gerry today to say hello and pass on all your best wishes.
He's doing well and in the best place at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre which is superb.

Gerry used be our trainer when I was a kid playing for Halton.
I found him to be an absolute gentleman with incredible moral values, a great teacher and role model.
He used to work us hard at our training ground (The car park near the old fairground).
Hope you get well soon Gerry.

Gerry is looking a lot better today and is very touched by the concern and best wishes from shrimps voices, he is not computer orientated but chris , his other son in law, and myself, visited him today and told him of the shrimps online community, on and offline, chris is printing comments off here to show to Gerry, so feel free to use SV as an online get well card

Perhaps the well wishes from us online could be considered a virtual 'magic sponge'
All the best, Gerry, wishing you a full recovery from the other side of the pond.
Cheers!
Richard

Gerry is still in hospital at blackpool where he has had a minor set back in his recovery but fingers crossed he seems to be on the mend. He is waiting for an operation to have an ICD (defibulater) fitted and when this happens he should be able to lead a normal life. His family would like to thank everybody for all the messages of support they have recieved at this difficult time and he looks forward to getting back to what he loves best watching morecambe.

Gerry would like to thank jim and all at mfc for their kind messages and memorabilia he has recieved while in hospital. When he was given them tonight his eyes lit up and it showed to him that alot of people are thinking about him and hoping that he gets through this. There is still along way to go but with the positive help and support of his family, friends and fellow supporters he will hopefully become stronger to enable him to have his operation.
