I think he deserved to be sacked i'm sorry but a team like Preston should be getting to at least the play offs

Why should a team like Preston be getting to the play-offs? They sell their best players each summer to improve their ground which they will never fill. Personally I think Irvine has done a good job; I can't see anybody else doing any better.

intresting point of view but! would you take that attitude with our new ground aswell? where already -minus a roof and just like a lot of people on here say we dont need a roof just yet for the sake of about 50 people, so then why build that stand at all just for the moment

would fans instead splash out big on long term contracts and players on a promotion push(with no guarantees of that) ?

Very harsh looking at his overall performance, on a very limited budget, they will regret it big time if they end up in a relegation fight later in the season, however, the constant chanting at deepdale calling us lot, just a town full of smackheads, kind of negates any sympathy for their fans.

The crcumstances are a bit different Dawzi, we're building a stadium for different reasons than Preston. We need to improve our facilities to stay in the Football league (Christie does not meet all ground grading criteria, of which four accessible sides for viewing the match is one) and hopefully the new ground will make us much more viable going forward. Bit of a cheap pop at the nob end admittedly, I just find them an odd breed.

The point I'm making relates to expectations. What do Preston board and their supporters expect? Heyshem_mfc said that they should be aiming for the play-offs....why? 8 points off the play-offs and 7 off relegation at the moment with plenty of the season left. For me, an outsider who has no interest in Preston, I'd say that fairly realistic for them given the limitations they have (low crowds, willingness to let the best players go each year). Irvine has done a very decent job, what is he expected to achieve? Correct me if I'm wrong, but does Preston need to sell all the time? They seem well off as football clubs go, they've rebuilt deepdale (excellently btw) over the last decade so they can't be that skint. So why do they sell? From the outside it looks like a complete lack of ambition. I don't think they would need to go on a big shop with no guarantees of promotion to be successful, just keep what they already have for a bit longer.

Perhaps the rise of Blackpool has something to do with things?

easier for them to live with if Blackpool weren't above them in the league and Burnley in the Premiership!

Well Presons aim by their boad is to have premiership football at Deepdale and it's not just me who think that they should get a least a play offs spot which we have been they are capable of getting I know a few Preson fans and they have said that they would be dissapointed if they don't. The table though is very close so i'm sure they will have many managers just waiting for a job like this to come up we are also in the week that the transfer window opens so a new manager would be able to get a couple of this own signings in stright away.

Preston's main priority is to be financially stable. This season they were 3rd in the league and going well, then Middlesbrough (who were below them in the league) came in for one of their top players Sean St Ledger. Any club with promotion aspirations wouldn't sell one of their star players when they've made a great start to the season. St Ledger went out on loan initially as the transfer deadline had passed but a fee of £4.5m was agreed if Boro decided to buy him. Since then PNE have been in freefall, St Ledger's back now but the damage has been done.

Preston lose around £3m - £4m each season and if you look back over the years, they always sell their star player. Sean St Ledger, Paul McKenna, David Nugent, Ricardo Fuller, David Healy, Eddie Lewis, Jon Macken. It's hard for Preston fans to get excited when every season they see players like those come and go to balance the books.
