Last week, having lost their financial backer their supporters were talking about going into administration and dropping into the Conference. 7 days later following a home win they are now in talks with the council about a new stadium with a capacity for 7,000.

A hell of a long way off!

Just think where we were 9 years ago and how things can change in football.

Benefactors coming and going shows just how crucial it is that clubs with relatively small fan-bases maximise whatever facilities they can in terms of income.

Which is why our club is right to do what it's doing and to concentrate, within reason, on those facilities at the new stadium that will bring money in.

Exactly....

It would be great to have a new Stadium as per the original vision, but the Board have once again taken the more prudent and logical course for the long term stability of our club.

Weren't Chester planning something along the same lines with a similar timeframe? Look at them now. That was a smokescreen for what was to come, let's hope this Macclesfield announcement isn't the same.

The internet's a strange place! Anyone can make anything up and within a few days it's established 'fact'! ;)

Macc never lost their owners, in fact not long after that rumour started, the guys converted £800,000 of loans into shares to show their commitment to the club.

No idea how the new stadium will develop t b honest, but we really need it.

Oh, and it's not being planned to be built in 2018, just that it happens to also be a part of the World Cup bid. Reports from different sources (i.e. club and council) hve been different but the earliest date was 2013.

I'd not really followed things at Morecabe, how long did it take from the first ideas of a new stadium first being put forward did it take to get to this stage? I wonder if 2013 is realistic for us.

As a guide - this was the first announcement of ours.

Of course by that stage there had been a lot of behind the scenes dealings to agree the principle of the acquisition of the land, though formal purchase and the relevant planning applications still had to be done after the announcement.

The sale of the current ground to Sainsbury's was announced sometime later but, again, work will have been ongoing a long time before they were ready to announce that.

I don't think 2013 is totally fanciful, so long as a lot of negotiations have already been ongoing.
If you're starting absolutely from scratch (and I doubt it - they don't normally make these announcements without some sort of pretty firm indication as to whether it's achievable) then you'd be pushing it.

Anyway - the very best of luck with it all. It IS the only way forward for clubs like ours (unless you really have the scope to develop your current ground along similar lines).

Our first announcement was about two years ago when a previous chairman first raised the possibility of building on that bit of land.

I'd imaginethings got a bit sticky because since then we've changed Chairman and Macclesfield Borough Council was replaced by Cheshire East Council last year, which I'm sure slowed things down.

You look like you were a bit further on than we were then, with artist impressions and the like. If we're running to the same timeframe, we'd need to be getting that stage sometime early next year.

But interesting that even from that stage, the first date given for opening the stadium was a year out!

These things clearly take longer than the rest of us realise.

Cheers for that, interesting stuff.

Aye - there are usually one or two things that crop up. I think this putting back of the opening date was caused (at that stage) something as simple (but crucial) as long delays in getting a court date for a legal formality that had to be ironed out before they could progress to another stage.

As it happened there were other considerations and modifications that - once they had the breathing space - they could incoroporate comfortably having decided to put the date back.
