Sad News.

His original appearances were before my time, but I remember him during his second spell in the '70's.

I remember then being very impressed that an England international was playing for us.

RIP.

Arguably the greatest player ever to play for Morecambe, one of the greatest goal scorers, an England cap and all from someone born in Lancaster.

I hope we honour his memory with the minute's applause / silence his memory deserves.

Such a sad loss.

Deserves all the plaudits and should be remembered as a true legend of MFC.

Pride of place in a 'legend wall' in the new stadium?

a great player Mike thats for sure in terms of what he did after he left Morecambe
the greatest for Morecambe well thats a great debate isnt it?
Keith borrowdale was the greatest goal scorer mate and hes still alive and well
as for Ray...the greatest of that age the 50ss perhaps
sad news for those who remember Ray though

Yesterdays Crewe programme gave a timely and fitting tribute write-up on Morecambe's goalscoring favourites under the heading Shooting Stars which was headed by Ray Charnley. I have a few vague recollections of him playing and netting quite a few goals in the early 1970's when I first took to watching the Shrimps and was impressed then that we had our own ex-England player.

Born in Bolton-le-Sands. Truely a Morecambe legend. RIP Ray. Condolences to his family.

I remember Ray when he came back to Christie Park towards the end of his career. It was unbelievable that someone who had played for England came back to play for Morecambe.
A great hero. Thanks Ray.

RIP

Condolences to Ray’s family and friends, they are in my prayers. It’s a sad day when anyone from the MFC family passes away, especially so when they are regarded with such legendary status. Didn’t see him myself, but he’s a name that is synonymous with Morecambe FC and was saddened when I heard the news on BBC Radio Lancashire this morning.

for those who never saw him in a Morecambe shirt, he was a tall lanky old fashioned centre forward who was leathal in the air, but he could also play on the deck as well.
he helped build up the clubs image in that era with his high goalscoring.

very sad loss of a true Morecambe legend, RIP.
