Rumour on stadium name?

Rumour on stadium name?

Postby D-EZ » Sun Nov 15, 2009 10:57 am

I heard a quick shot rumour today that we're apparantly selling our stadium name to Intercontinental Holiday Group? Any truth on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

As there involvement has been huge I am expecting it to be called " The Sainsbury's Stadium"

Damn you beat me too it Dawzi :!:

I'm quite sure this is already in hand but personally i would like the main stand to be dedicated to Mr Joseph Barnes Christie + not just Christie Park :!:

I know that sponsoring the stadium and renaming it accordingly is the current way, but look at all the hassle that St James Park has had recently - I genuinely wouldn`t mind if it was called the Sainsburys Stadium - permanently, as they have essentially, bankrolled the whole move and we can move there, debt free.
But I do think that Christie Park and JB Christie should get a mention on the site, either a stand named after them or the approach road etc.

I'm sure i saw somewhere that the new road up to the ground was called Christie Way, or I may have been dreaming

When the stadium plans were originally unveiled (seems like ages ago now) I believe that the plans showed that JB Christie would be incorporated into the stadium by naming the approach road "Christie Way". As I understand it the rest of the ground is up for grabs in terms of sponsorship, which I don't personally have a problem with. As mentioned previously, we are not currently a self-financing club. Anything that can relieve the financial dependence on the directors is only good news for the long-term future of the club.

Christie Way is indeed on the plans for the approach road. I'd happily see the name changing as needed or regular extra cash coming in from "Sainsbury" or anyone else.

The ideal 'J B Christie' link would be for the banqueting suite which wouldn't lend itself to sponsorship.

So how did that work out then?
