Shrimpsvoices

As many of you will have read in todays Visitor, Editor and life long Shrimps fan (he can be forgiven for his Spurs connection ) is to leave his position this weekend and take up a role with Fat Media, co-sponsors of Morecambe FC.

I'm sure everybody on SVs and other Shrimps fans not switched onto SVs will wish him well and thank him for his tremendous work, not only in his support of our club but for the excellent way that he and his team have reported the events surrounding and about the town.

There will be many memories; some happy, some tragic, but all have been reported in keeping with the long founded traditions of the Visitor Newspaper.

Cheers Glen. You've served the town and our club well over the years.

I've not seen what you've written in The Visitor, but if you've reflected back, which I guess you have, then it isn't an exaggeration to say you witnessed the most remarkable changes in the news industry, a revolution that will never be repeated. From the days when the press setters (or whatever they were called) were one of the most powerful of all unions (famously even refusing to print a national paper's front page for political reasons) through to electronic printing, through to the current electronic age. An amazing period of change, from the days when a paper-boy would have double the deliveries on a Wednesday because almost a quarter of the population* bought one of the local newspapers right through to the digital age and mass ownership of titles.

Isn't there a book in you somewhere?


*Or at least, so it felt to one tiny paper-boy

I am hoping that there will be Glen End Of Era Keepsake merchandise available in time for Christmas.

Maybe a tee shirt or a mug? Maybe a car sticker that says 'I used to buy The Visitor'?

I must admit to being a little disappointed that there was no pull out poster in this weeks Vis.

I am hoping that Glen will maybe stand for Local Government at the next opportunity.

Bit of a departure after so long in the industry but I'm joining a really good locally-owned company and excited about the prospect.

I'll still do what I can to help promote Morecambe FC and, of course, the town in which I live and, whatever anyone says about it, which I'm immensely proud to call my home.
