Idea for the new stadium

Having been to a few new grounds and stands, such as Preston’s, I feel that much could be done to improve the bar facilities at newer stadium. Most feel like just a holding pen with over-priced beer.

We could ,with a bit of thought, use each bar in each stand as a selling point for the new stadium. Instead of just having breeze block walls we could with a bit of plaster and colour create more of a bar feel than that of a holding pen. Provide seating and some good lighting. So that people will want to stay longer in the area, not just a quick pint before the game and maybe one at half time. Get it right and fans will use it as a meeting point rather than the various pubs in Lancaster and Morecambe.

We could give each bar a theme to add to the feel of things. The home end could have a theme of ‘Morecambe Legends’. Start a hall of fame of say 20 legends , chosen by the club, and then each year have a fans vote to enter another player into the legends. Pictures could be hung around the bar. The Main stand could have a history of the club as its theme. Kind of a museum showing how we have grown over the years. The other side of the ground could have a Wembley theme with photo’s and memorabilia from both our Wembley Victories. With three quality areas for fans to visit we could even have a mini pub crawl within the ground!

The away end could be kept as a holding pen with an extra £1 on each pint. Maybe add a photo at each game of us scoring a goal against which ever team we are playing on that day. Just to get them in the mood for a good beating.

With a bit of thought the club could draw people to the ground earlier in the day, which would put more money back into the club and help create a better atmosphere by kick off time. Just an idea...

Funny that.

Several of us said that at Torquay. They did a carvery in one bar/restaurant, another had big screens up and comfy chairs and had quite a good 'hospitality' crowd in there before and after the game.

A third looked like a dancefloor, function bar/club which, again, had plenty of people in it before the game and for quite a while after.

At our new stadium, they may have to concentrate on two or three main areas to do this but the principle of thinking of them as 'longer-term' bars rather than just some pre-match pint area is a very sensible one.

I know the club has spent a lot of time working with experienced bar operators and have looked at a few new stadia in the League and the Conference to get ideas.

Burton have a small inclosed bar area in the away end with tables, chairs and a tv showing the second half.

It's pretty basic but much better than just been stood under the terrace.

No way. Not the comfy chairs!

[Biggles pushes in a comfy chair -- a really plush one]

Ximinez: So you think you are strong because you can survive the soft cushions. Well, we shall see. Biggles! Put her in the Comfy Chair!

[They roughly push her into the Comfy Chair]

That's cruel.

I would do something simlar to that but maybe don't show the game in the bar as somepeople would just watch it from there but keep it open after the game and shown the whole match on the TV screen this way the club can still make money and people would hang around longer after the game

The idea of a simple carvery selling maybe a hot roast in a bun before, during and after the match in the home and away ends sounds a sure fire winner and would be highly profitable.

Not only that but everything could be freshly prepared in the stadium main kitchen, so cutting out the midddle man.

£2.50 for a bun packed with hot beef or ham......excellent.

:) :) :)

Like the idea of a carvery :D and could we please have our beer served in a glass, at least in the home ends. Plastic pint-pots for the away end of course ;)

I'm almost sure that consumption of alcohol at outdoor sporting events has to be in plastic pots by law. :?: :?: :?:

Can you not get a glass in JB's bar anymore? I've not been in since promotion to the league but you used to be able to.

I think the rule must be that you can't have glasses if you then have direct access to the terraces or stands. At Torquay on Saturday and many other clubs they serve in glasses in any of their bars where they have door staff - as we do at JBs.
