Listened to The Bay interview with Sammy then left it on to 'listen live'. So I may have misheard but I thought they said there was traffic congestion around Lancaster due to a fire in a building next to the bus station.

May have misheard but if heading that way, it may be worth checking out.

Some suggestion that it was the students housing that was on fire

Drove (crawled) past at around 8.20 this morning, Police had shut one lane from St Georges Quay to just opposite the bus station. There were 3 Fire Engines, but didn't see any smoke or flames so guess they'd put it out by then. Couldn't really tell which building it was but there wasn't anyone hanging around who looked like they had been evacuated.

Are there any empty buildings down there?

There were a couple of fire engines outside the student housing at 7.30 this morning; didn't see any sign of smoke or fire from the bus station though.

They were parked on the main road though, so not surprising that some congestion occured

St. Georges Quay was closed at both ends on Wednesday afternoon at Parksafe and at the Lune Rd junction. Has there been some goings on this week I wonder

Edit: That was this :o

Today it was a fire in a cellar of the flats opposite the taxi rank. It was in the 'older' building, not the new 'Cable Street' flats. One way system's been knackered all day until about 2. It proves you only need a small disruption (there was about a 20 metre stretch down to one lane) to cause big jams in Lancaster!

A busy day for the boys in blue, the fire near the bus station, an accident on Caton Raod and Princess Alexandra visiting the Cancer Research charity shop on Market Street.

Unbelievable how many police there were on Market Street this morning for the 'royal' visit. Compare that to how many will be there in the early hours of tomorrow morning when there actually might be some trouble as the piss artists start wandering home
