Reject?? Benjani shone at Pompey and was bought for a decent amount of money by man city, if anything Pompey are a benjani reject ;)

As Benjani is a Zimbabwean international he requires a work permit should he leave Man City permanently. All work permit requests for this transfer deadline must have been lodged with the FA by midday yesterday, therefore if he goes anywhere it will be on loan.

He cost Pompey £4M.
Depends whether you think 19 goals, including 2 hat-tricks, in 70 games is a good return.
He was lucky to sign for Man City. He missed two successive flights to Manchester for his medical after falling asleep at the airport.
Pompey had already committed themselves to buying Defoe for £9M.
City paid Pompey under £4M, with the rest (£3.5M) subject to playing 70 odd games, which I don't think he got anywhere near completing.
So taking into account what Pompey had committed on Defoe they lost out on Benjani.
I don't blame City though, they were probably getting their own back after wasting £3M signing Lee Bradbury from Pompey
