I've been asked about dongles for laptops but with only one provider here on the Island, I've no idea what is a good deal in the UK. Any recommendations? Good deals? Laptop give-aways? Pay As You Go? Approximate costs (reasonably moderate user, some surfing & e-mail, no massive downloads).

you don't say who it's for, individual or work? if they already have a mobile, first thing to check is any deals offered by their mobile phone company. Eg 3 do a half price contract for 3 mobile users, i pay £15 per month instead of £30 for 15gb. Other than that, uswitch.co.uk does a comparison of deals.

if its only surfing and a few emails i wouuld go with pay as y go vodafone

i paid £34 for the dongle with 1gb on it,then you top up £15 for the next 1gb

there is also no time limit wiv vodafone so you dont have to use it within the month unlike some

i use mine when im on the move and it lasts me ages ;)

Offer in the paper today at Currys for £30 a month unlimited 'fair use'. Free 2 GB laptop 24 month contract. Worth it if you dont already have a laptop.

I use o2 mobile internet for all my internet access at just under £15.00 a month for the lowest downloading category as I no longer have a landline (I've loathed BT after they cut off my mother's service without notice - they were aware she was 83, living alone and had Alzheimers Disease, and it took me an hour and a half to make them reconnect her at ten o'clock at night).

If you download a lot then you're likely to pay more. When I signed up I was sent a free mobile phone but I understand that recently they've been offering free laptops with the contract. I sometimes have difficulty obtaining a signal but on the whole it's adequate for my needs and I find o2 a good provider.
