David Perkins Hands in Transfer Request

Colchester United midfielder David Perkins has handed in a transfer request.

Caretaker manager Joe Dunne revealed after the game against MK Dons that the former Rochdale man asked to leave the club late on Friday evening.

"David has handed in a transfer request," Joe revealed.

"I can understand his frustrations as he hasn't played a great deal, His reasons are genuine and he just wants to play football, and he has been good for the club.

"We will see how it unfolds, but things might change next week."

Perkins spell with the U's is the first time he has ventured south in his career and it is thought he may want to return north to be closer to his family.

U's Chief Executive Steve Bradshaw added: "Whilst David has really appreciated the opportunity to come to Colchester United and likes playing football here, he has found it very difficult to settle in the south of England and therefore has submitted a formal transfer request.

"David understands that any transfer would have a financial element to it, as he was bought by the football club for a six-figure fee only twelve months ago.

"He is also absolutely committed to taking every playing opportunity whilst he is here, and we all hope that David is able to settle and can commit to a long term future at the club."

The U's did try to get fresh talent in loan last week - and they may have to venture into the market before the transfer window closes, following Lee Beevers' shoulder injury against the Dons.

I for one would love to see him back despite what happened towards the end of his time at CP. Can't see him coming back as he seems a decent League 1 player.

....no doubt others will feel the same......unfortunately as much as he'd be an excellent signing, I doubt we could afford him.

The lad seems to have become a goal machine recently :o all good goals as well from outside the area.

We need defenders anyway

and we couldn't possibly have a midfielder who will shoot from outside the area and score
