Just got Back

Just got Back

What can I say...where is the luck? Craney wonder shot hits the post, Barnet go up the other end, Moss makes a mistake and they score. Alternative Craney scores, Moss makes no mistake and at worse we end up drawing the game.

Still one point out of nine tells its own story. Panther was good tonight considering he only joined yesterday and Wilson was great too. Really felt we deserved something tonight, but then that is relegation talk. Results matter and three points on Saturday are now imperative otherwise confidence is going to drain and fast. Still a vast improvement from Saturday, but then it couldn't really get mucg worse.

I thought Panther was great tonight. He kept going, chasing after everything until the end. Artell was immense, stopping everything that came his way. The trouble is, we never looked like scoring.

Because for almost all of the game the ball was bouncing around the centre circle, Jevons was getting flagged offside, and Wilson was having to spend a lot of his time making tackles around our area. I missed their goal trying to get there, but in the 87 minutes i saw, ok we had the ball in the net, but the rest of the time we didn't even get close to having a shot. Curtis should have scored his effort for sure.

From reading the football forum it would appear that Barnet's performance last night was one of their worst performances in the past 12 months yet it was still good enough to beat us!

Worrying times.

If's and buts however bottom line we made few chances and never really looked in the game.Panther had a better second half but he was off the pace in the first half.I think Sammy told him we were playing in blue.Lets see him after a few more games. We made few chances and the same applies to Barnet as well - both goalies had little to do.Penalty looked dodgy but the bottom line is we never made enough chances after the first minute chance.Near the end Stewart and Curtis had chances - Waynes was a very good chance but after that very little. After the first 10 minutes the back 3 did well especially Artell.Wilson worked hard and I liked his spirit.Jevons however was a major disappointment - poor running off the ball and he made little or no effort to challenge for the ball - reminded me in the air of Shelley.

Barnet................Morecambe
2....Shots On Target....2
5....Shots Off Target... 4
20...Fouls(Conceded)..17
3.....Corners............1
3.....Yellow Cards........2

Sounds like a tremendous improvement to me from Saturday, ok maybe not brilliant and we lost but it doesn't sound as though we're a million miles away from it clicking together and we stopped Barnet from playing. Keep the faith and trust Sammy, he hasn't let us down yet. Remember last season ;) He'll be fuming will Sammy with how we have started this new campaign and thats what I like about him, he's an open honest guy and is not afraid to show his feelings as well as accepting the blame. Not many managers do that, in fact I can't think of another one.

Wilson MOTM for me, he was brilliant and showed a great attitude, maybe Barry Roche's on-field anger at conceding so many goals is getting through to the other players! Thought Wainwright had a good first game back too, although considering he was our most threatening and creative player going forward I don't know why the system was changed to 4-3-3 with no wingers!

Twiss worked hard and is improving every game but we do need a big man up front. We gave up on playing our flowing, passing game after a few minutes of pressure from Barnet and looked desperate hitting long balls to Jevons and Twiss that were cleared with ease.

A couple of Barnet fans walking away afterwards gave credit to us for turning up on a Tuesday night, and said if they could stay up last season with the squad they had, we don't need to worry :P

Better than Saturday, but not the most enjoyable 4 hours journey home!

I know its history now but I saw the thread title and have only just got back to my PC :o

You have already described pretty accurately what happened. I was surprised SUPER MANny Panther started, and sure enough he did look a bit lost in the middle of the park for about half an hour while he introduced himself to his team mates, although as the game went on he began to show his prowess :D . We need to stop giving the opposition a head start do we not? :x

For me Barnet look simply more like a team of athletes rather than footballers and that showed through much of the 90 minutes.

Was pleased with the 70 or so turnout. When we arrived at the Queens Arms around 6.30 it looked a bit quiet:

Although we were joined by 8 Sardines who had gallantly made the trip :D

We realised later the Exiles were huddled around the corner in the Old Red Lion :(

Anyway we made our way down to Underhill and were glad to see welcoming faces

..and Matt the drummer tried to single handedly create the atmosphere

Fortunately for us we only had a drive back to Cambridge 8-)
Enjoy yourself.... It is later than you think
