Granted the result is disappointing and although i could not get to the game today there are a few positives, as in the return of jimbo and jevons so all not too bad on the injury front, we have to be realistic, this was burtons forst home game ever in the league so they must have just been really up for it, very disappointing but its not the end of the world guys so lets try stay positive and give more support to ensure we stay a league club for our new ground opening

Rubbish!
It's not negative to say that today's performance was appalling.
This was a game we should have expected to get at least a point, but if we were to lose I certainly would only expect it to be by the odd goal. Burton were no more than industrious. I don't think they can have believed how poor we were today. To say we were appalling is not negative, it's what we were!

I was at the game and Burton were crap. We just made them look superb.
Sammy has a lot of thinking to do. We couldn't defend, midfield couldn't pass the ball. Duffy sending off -stupid.
They should be all called in tomorrow and have their heads banged together.

I like to think my glass is always half full but yesterday was a down right disgrace. I only had three words to mutter on the way home - appauling, disgusting and unacceptable. If we played like that in the conference north we would get slaughtered. Quite how we managed to score 2 and they only get 5 is incredible. I don't see how any fans that rarely go would be attracted to go again after that. It was so bad three of us went to the bar after 35 mins and stayed there till the 85th, the only down side being that they screen the game in there. I know I'm only young so I won't have seen the delights of Leek Town and Woking, but that was the worst I have ever seen us play. Shocking

How much of this, if anything, can be blamed on one of our worst pre-seasons ever? I'm certainly a person who believes that confidence is such an important factor and, whilst on the face of it I agree with those who say results aren't the be all and end all in friendlies, victories, no matter in what form, breed confidence. I also don't think Sammy's chopping and changing is doing us any favours. Darren Moss, for example, has played in 3 different positions in 3 matches - central defence V Hereford, Right Back V Preston and Right Wing-Back V Burton. I'm not convinced Sammy knows what his best 11 is and surely that is one of the purposes of friendlies?

I was there yesterday and whilst my 5-4 prediction was tongue in cheek the other day I was hoping it may have come true.
The fact is Burton are poor and there were more goals in the game for Morecambe should our defence not have played like the cast of Billy Elliott. It may have been one of those days but 12 goals conceded in 3 games tells its own story.
One thing that did annoy me though was Sammy's unwillingness to change things. It was obvious after 25 mins of the game that the system was not working yet he did nothing to change it. We hear a lot about managers making bold moves to earn their money (eg Capello, Mourinho) yet Sammy was happy for us to continue to get over-run for the remainder of the first half.
Burton's tactics were also simple; high ball in Adams' direction because he won't win it in the air (penalty move stemmed from this), and forwards to get the ball on the floor and run at Bentley at pace because he has none.
Hoping to see a much better defensive performance at Barnet on Tuesday.

Yawn. We did play badly, but I don't know what coming on here and crying about it is going to do. I trust Sammy to sort it out, people just need to relax a little.

I have watched the shrimps for 31 years and yesterdays performance (or lack of) was on a par with leek away 0-7 and gravesend awaw 0-6) APPALLING IS NOT THE RIGHT WORD TO USE IT WAS SHAMBOLIC - just wish the team would at least battle for the shirt and put some effort in as yesterday there was very very little

So what do we do? Only come on here and celebrate the good times?
I thought the idea of the forum is to share views about anythiing including the team's performance. If that performance is poor, then the views will reflect it.

First goal, good finish, no complaints, BUT Moss did not do enough to stop the original cross.
Second goal, Another disappointing header clear by Haining that was capitalised on.
Third goal, probably the most unluckiest of the lot, as the clearance rebounded off the back of a player straight into the lads path.
Fourth goal, - Bentley, who is good at this if you watch carefully, backed off from a challenge, allowing the guy into the box, Adams came from nowhere, genuine attempt to win the ball but it was unnecessary, and it was a pen, although i thought the Albion player milked the dive somwhat.
Fifth goal, Stanley and Roche in lack of communication. - Needs addressing quickly.
I agree entirely that yesterday was nothing short of a shcoking, unacceptable display.
No urgency from the bench, i hardly saw S.M stand up after 4-1.
Roche can get some credit, he stopped a massacre becoming a bigger massacre.
Bentley needs games, Adams needs dropping and Duffy needs help! - One of the worst, unneccessary tackles ive seen for a long time.
Just another point, we made plenty of noise, but it still felt a bit soulless at times in a very neat stadium; home supporters were very quiet given the sense of occasion.
I wish the person who thought of the idea of blasting out a tune every time a goal went in gets sacked !

Pretty well summed up . I agree with most of it. "Milked the dive"
Oh and are you reading the person who said in a pm to me that were created no noise,

Embarrassing on and off the pitch
I think not. Gone down in my opinion after that statement.

I don't think the Fifth goal was Stanley and Roche's fault. If you have seen it on TV it was clearly Jimbo and Roche's fault. Its not good when our captain and goalkeeper are bickering and can't agree on decisions on the pitch as they are our 2 most commanding players. Jim's fit, but not match fit. He needs games in the reserves before he playes a whole 90 mins in the first team.

I was in the home section yesterday with a few friends from Burton. Needless to say it was a long day.
In open play I thought we looked good, especially in the first half hour (despite losing two soft goals) where our passing and movement offered some encouraging signs for the season. Personally I felt that the half-time score line flattered Burton somewhat, as they seemed to score every time they went forward. In the second half we had to chase the game, and invariably left gaping chasms at the back which the Burton front players exploited. Two superb strikes by Twiss either side of half-time, both from distance and both rattling the frame of the goal with the keeper well beaten. No complaints for the penalty, Adams having a 'Monk' moment when the Albion player was running the ball out for a corner.
The big concern for me is defending. Clearly when you concede 12 goals in 3 games something is not quite right. The old adage of defending as a unit, a team, was obvious yesterday. Fraser McLachlan does not always please the eye with his distribution, but he is quite ruthless in the job he is actually paid to do (sit in front of the defence and break up play). He will be missed, and it is clear why the management rate him highly after yesterday. For all his skill and talent, Craig Stanley clearly can't perform Fraser's holding role and is very reluctant to get stuck in. Perhaps Sammy should switch Stanners and Drummy?
Duffy came on and was clearly following the instructions given to him by Sammy, not sure he actually left the right touch-line. He was doing ok, but like a few players when the 5th went in his head started to drop and a few rash challenges followed. Moments before he was actually sent off for a pathetic and dangerous tackle, he swung and missed (golf style) with a look of venom on his face at their left midfielder. I knew it would not be long before he would throw himself into another tackle. For me, the manner of his sending off was the most disappointing aspect of the afternoon. We had already lost the game (a contributing factor for the tackle I'd guess), a pointless and stupid challenge. He is a professional, time to act like one and show the correct attitude. If he was trying to prove a point, perhaps not being pushed off the ball so easily would have helped. I hope he has apologised to Sammy and the Burton player for his conduct.

....and yet we had 52% possession according to Player. The same number of corners and only slightly less shots on goal.
Funny old game!

You can do, but all I'm saying is its not actually going to do any good for the team. As Sammy is a better football manager than you I'll leave it up to him to sort the team out.
