The Football League show

What an utter pile of cack on so many levels.

The studio made it look like it had been shot in a showhome.
My one-year old has more Football League knowledge (he can sing songs about David Artell and Danny Carlton) than the presenters
No fan involvement bar a dreadful email in your comments tosh
The two presenters are just awful and totally lack any charisma and empathy with your average football fan
Granada Soccer Night is 10 times better than this and that was uber-cheap regional telly

Finally did anyone tape it? If then like me you'll have seen this in the Torquay highlights. Just staggered that the BBC are capable of producing something quite this bad. Enjoy...

We watched it, and all said it looked and sounded like it was filmed in a mobile articulated lorry or a caravan. It was pretty pants, can't be doing with Claridge, was a wholehearted player who maximised his meagre talent but was tripe as a manager and is clueless as a pundit.

However, it was nice to see our goals, all be it deep into Sunday morning!

...well what do you expect when the women supports Accy Stanley!

At least you can see all the other goals from the games played...but for the best coverage of our game...Morecambe Player it is!

On a par with Sky's offering from last season by all accounts then.

Don't know what they'll talk about now there are no clubs with points deductions in our league, that helped them pad the League 2 section out.

Reading Don Goodman's tips for the season in the Guardian supplement, it's perfectly clear he hasn't a clue about any team in the division.

Yeah we watched the recording on Sunday morning and for a moment I thought I had sat on the remote control! It was the 3rd slap of the weekend and I had to rewind it to prove it was not a private DVD :o

Edit - I was not the only one :

I thought it was good. I enjoyed the setting - rather more interesting than your basic generic studio with repulsive neon lights. I enjoyed the camera angles - it was a bit like watching Crimewatch (quite appropriate given Hereford's theft of our points) - and thought that the analysis was far more in depth than both ITVs The Championship and Sky's Big League Weekend. The input from the two guests was at least tactical and informed (unlike the usual arbitrary blagging) and kudos to them for letting fans at least have the opportunity of contributing their views. Whilst it was invariably asinine tripe, I like the sentiment behind it. Fans could even pose questions to the pundits, which I liked.

Maniche supports Leicester and the girl supports Accrington. Short of them both being avid Garforth Town season ticket holders, I am not sure quite how you expect them to have much more empathy with the 'average' football fan? What is an average football fan anyway?

They say they support these clubs but does that actually mean they watch them or understandand anything about the league they play in? This showed in the fact that the vast majority of the presenters comments were scripted. When they weren't we had references to Gillingham with a 'G' rather than a 'J' for pronunciation; a bloke's email saying that 'Newcastle should go up with my team West Brom because they were unlucky' to which she said something like thanks for the excellent feedback. I know these presenters aren't supposed to know everything about every team and every player, but even a couple of weeks refresher course would help. At that time of night surely it's time for a Danny Baker-type or better still errr... Danny Baker.

As for what you said at the start about camera angles etc. being sleek and different with angles and backgrounds is no excuse for quality content. Thank God for the highlights themselves.

Just noticed they outsourced production to IMG Sports Media - says a lot. I give you their 'football page'. http://www.imgworld.com/sports/soccer/default.sps

P.S. I actually Manish is a good host and very slick. He just needs to lighten up a bit and be prepared to take a few risks.

On the plus side it has enabled the BBC to post video highlights of the weekends games on BBC football. So no rubbish presenters, just highlights with commentary.

Just watched highlights from the weekend, superb save from Phil Jevons effort in the first half.

Taped the programme for a bit of early watching on sunday and thought I'd completely cocked up the sky plus when the woman on the toilet turned up.

On the football front, I had the overriding feeling of "they wouldn't even be here if sven hadn't turned up" and the presenters can claim all they like about who they support, but they didn't seem to speak with any level of knowledge (not like the chaps on radio lancashire's football hour for instance). This was topped off by steve claridge's assertion that "bradford are the biggest team in the division"!!! based on what may I ask? and I would have if i'd watched it live. typical bloody pundit bumping their chops based on reputation and not reality. maybe he'll lose a few more quid in the bookies though eh.

on the up side I liked the footage and the forum element to the show, except that of course all they wanted were comments from fans of a club that aren't actually managed by sven anyway! how pissed off would you be if you were McParland??!!!

maybe it will be a slow burner as they gradually learn what really happens in league two.

I expected it to be a bit more focused on leagues 1 and 2. I also think that they should not do the emails and texts part. The presenter with over 1000 football league appearances was rubbish.

I think Ian Holloway was the best part i just like listening to his cornish accent and some of the metaphors he uses are nothing short of genius  the overall show was at best average, i would describe it as a budget cut match of the day (and when i say budget cut i mean pretty much all of the money gone)

However on the plus side the highlights on the BBC sport website are a very good feature.

agree with the Ian Holloway comment, he is quality. Always worth a listen. Maybe they could be really radical and have some pundits on their that know the lower leagues but aren't that well known. Say look around for any team captains who might be out for a few weeks and pick their brains?

This Saturday's show is described in Radio Times as including "action from League Two as Burton Albion play host to Morecambe" so perhaps they're doing a special feature? 8-)

Most likely - there's often a feature on the club making their home debut in the football league.

Well I thought it was a great show. I like the fella Clem who heads round the grounds, and I agree it's great that we can see decent highlights of all our games on the BBC website a few days later.
