HELP FOR HEROES

Just to make everybody aware there will be Helpforheroes wristbands available in the club shop as of tomorrow.
They cost £2 and all the money raised will go to injured personnel of the forces. This is ever present with the government trying to cut back the compensation given to injured personnel on tour.
This will be a good way to show your support for people on tour in the Middle East. All donations would be massively appreciated.

Another three of our young paras killed for flip knows what.
The Armed Forces aren't everyones cup-of-tea.
These days it's an escape, and better than the dole, petty theft or even drugs.
Life in uniform looks exciting on the box and in the books.
The training's fun, often in the sun.
There's leave to take before they embark.
Maybe take in a game at Christie Park.
"I'm in the Army, and off soon to Afganishtarn"
Then the day arrives.
Kisses, cuddles "Don't fret, I'll be reyt!"
Off they go to flip knows where, or what!
Most survive the scars of war.
Some lose a limb, or two.
Others sadly don't make it back, other than in a wooden box.

Another sad few days.
The buzz is that we could be there for another 40 years.
And worst of all, Peter Manhdelson is in charge of the country.

I'm finding it difficult to enjoy life at the mo' with all this going on.
I know it could be worse, poor Delia Smith!

We're all tax payers.
Our dosh is being wasted on scroungers, illegal immigrants, spurious asylum seekers, and on unwinnable wars in godforsaken countries, who's own leaders are living in luxury.

What's the flippin point.
Isn't it time we said enough is enough?

I'll donate and I fully support our troops in Afghanistan and the incredible work they're doing.

One small point and I'm not looking to defend the government - the war in Iraq was based on a lie and is still one of the most contemptible things any government has ever done.

However there is no evidence that the government is trying to cut compensation given to personnel injured on tour. I hate quoting the Daily Express but here's the article. http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/118 ... ine-troops. As the article states the two soldiers were awarded compensation in line with current agreements (which in my view are ridiculously low). They then appealed and got four times more compensation. The Ministry of Defence then challenged the appeal amount because the claim related to complications which occured later. As Simon Weston, says, "it's car crash politics to challenge those compensation claims", and he's right. As the government now say, the MOD was looking for clarity in compensation and as a result they're made the decision to increase compensation for troops injured in combat. However, and rightly so, they've decided to review the entire system to ensure that troops are more fairly and more justly treated when suffering serious combat injuries.

The government are a very easy target but sometime unjustly as papers like The Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph, in this case, play politics too and also fast and loose with the truth.

And part of that process should be to get the heck out of Afghanistan pdq.
Too many are being seriously injured and maimed for life.
For every fatality there are probably another 30 wounded to various degrees.
Is the loss of blood worth it?
No.
It never will be.

Just to remind folk -if you have a few hours spare this evening why not come along and support the tabletop sale and auction for the Aden Veterans in the York. These guys were in the Middle East many years ago fighting a war that received scant coverage and many got NO compensation for their wounds.

Starts at 6.30pm, children welcome and there are bar snacks available. The club have donated a shirt for the auction/raffle. If you have anything to give us for sale just drop it in after 12.

Thanks
