Instead of forking out for specialised holiday insurance cover, check with your bank that it's included as part of your account.

If it is, then make use of it, 'cause it's certainly worth it and has far better coverage than some you have to pay a premium for.

On the one occassion we had to use it to get us back to the UK from Barbados due to a family bereavement, they were excellent in arranging everything for us regarding flights and transport back home from Gatwick.

The policy covers practically all eventualities and even loss of your holiday due to Swine Flu I understand.

Presumably you pay a fee for your bank account though? It wouldn't just be included in a normal current account?

I have a Barclays account but it costs me £14/month but I have to say that it overall saves me a fortune. My partner and I recently opened a joint account with Barclays and subsequently changed my benefits to the joint account so that now we both get all the benefits but only pay one fee of £14/month which includes comprehensive worldwide family travel insurance, Car breakdown cover with RAC (including homestart), mobile phone insurance etc etc. As I said with it being a joint account and joint benefits the RAC cover both our cars etc etc.

Yep - £12.95

Though probably not bad value if you travel a lot. HSBC offer a similar account with travel insurance as well as breakdown cover and other bits and pieces; I think for a similar price.

Smile do a similar deal, european car breakdown cover, travel insurance, experian credit checking account and 20% off their own home insurance. Switching mortgage to Smile, it also removes the £995 admin fee. In the last few months my £26 paid to date has saved me about £1200 of direct costs.
