THREE goals in the closing 20 minutes of the first half ensured a strong Morecambe side ran out 4-1 winners at Parkside tonight in a game that ended in torrential rain, thunder and lightning.
Town started the brighter with Alex Taylor shooting just wide early on after making the most of some sluggish defending, while David Foster could not quite steer Taylor's near-post cross into the net on 13 minutes.
But the visitors settled into their game and went ahead through Fraser McLachlan, who fired into the net after being set up with a square pass from inside the area by Michael Twiss.
Aaron Taylor then doubled Morecambe's advantage three minutes later, curling a superb strike into the top right from just outside the area and youngster Shaun Doherty made it 3-0 with the last kick of the half with a powerful strike.
Town went at Morecambe in the second half and Tony Hallam was unlucky to see his 47th-minute effort cleared off the line after Shrimps keeper Scott Davies had made a mess of a cross.
Town got on the scoresheet 20 minutes into the second half via a brilliant Carl Osman finish, the winger lifting a delicate lob over Davies in the Morecambe goal.
But 11 minutes from time Taylor grabbed his second of the evening with a simple finish from close range to wrap up victory for the visitors.
