Wild Bill has a new job. Problem is it means a commute to Blackpool everyday. Anyone know which is the best route and how to avoid any nightmare traffic. My new job will be near the Central Pier and I live in Moorlands in Lancaster.

You should'nt be too bad being at the "top" end of town, certainly in kids holidays it is a lot easier. Aim towards Galgate on the A6. Shortest route is the A586 through St. Michaels and Poulton le Fylde which will take you through to Blackpool Town Centre where car parking for the day may be an issue? The 1st Pier you would see is North Pier and you would turn left down the prom about 300 yards or so. If you get fed up with the "scenic" route then get on the M6 at Galgate down to J32 at Fulwood and join the M55 which, if you follow into town, takes you to Blackpool FC and the Tower is pretty much in front of you. Turn left on the new road system which takes you onto the prom - quite a few more miles but at busy times is usually quicker.

If you are more adventurous get one of these from St George Quay

Checked out both routes; A roads via Glasson Dock and the Motorways. The A road is only 25 miles but will take a bit longer. The motorway is about 45 miles but takes 40-50 minutes. What's the traffic like on these roads at 8.00am and 5.00pm?

Although probably shorter still, going via A588 Glasson Dock, Pilling, Preesall, Hambleton will seem like an eternity. I would stick to A6/A586 if I were you.

You should'nt be so bad heading out of town at 8am but which ever way you come back at 5pm you will still have to crawl in from Scotforth but certainly better than the alternative of J34 and up through the town.

I used to work in Blackpool up until 3 months ago.

I always went via St Michaels BUT if your job is in Central Blackpool then possibly the motorway will be the better bet but make sure you go past Blackpool's ground to get into the centre.

Neither way is particularly busy compared with getting into Lancaster. Try both and see for yourself. As for getting out at 5pm, again the Motorway especially from the centre.

The pilling route takes aprox 45 mins with no traffic to contend with i always go that route when heading to blackpool i like those types of road though but everybody is different best thing to do is try all three possible routes to find out the quickest or most suitable for yourself

i work in blackpool a lot


from the moorlands to the the pier where you want, the motorway is the quickest but just make sure you listen to traffic reports on the radio so you can allways use the A6 road through Garstang


oh and the glasson dock, cockeram, pressall, pilling route is only the quickest if your working fleetwood cleveleys way
