Can anyone suggest a decent sat nav, (i dont want to spend a fortune) iv noticed Argos have a sale on them at the moment but dont know much about them, can anyone help please

Garmin tend to be the best. Our delivery fleet evaluated a number of makes including tom tom and Garmin (probably the two main contenders) and Garmin won hands down.

Try one of the Garmin nuvis - can't remember the model, but sure you can get a decent one for about £100 in argos.

I got the Binatone A350 from Argos, a couple of months ago and have no complaints, one of the cheapest i know, but has done the job so far. f

I've just bought my dad this Garmin nuvi 200W for his birthday, its the brand new version and at £70 is ridiculously cheap they sell it at PC world for £99 and if you go in they will give you a demo, its so easy to use and takes a couple of minutes to set up, even my dad who is allergic to anything electronic found it easy to use I've tryed to find a better one, and I can't, and I've tryed to find a cheaper one, and I can't! would very much recommend this for you

I prefer TomTom devices and have a 920T. It takes over my mobile so I've got a hands free phone in the car, works in tunnels and uses traffic info to re-route if there are long delays. TomTom's coding means a model beginning 5 is UK only, 7 is UK & Europe and 9 is UK, Europe and USA. For a few quid per month you can also get 4 map updates per year.

I agree with the Gnashmeister. Tom Tom is extremely user friendly, and has good clear directions and mapping. Also, the later versions will announce the name of the road you want as well. For example if going to MFC from Morecambe Road, it would say "Take the 2nd exit, Lancaster Road".

It might depend on your budget, but if money is no object and you don't need USA mapping, I'd recommend the Tom Tom Go 740.

I bought a Sony off e-Bay 4 years ago and has never failed me. Unlike some who've ended up in farmyards.

Use mine nearly all the time except when travelling to CP. My car seems to know where it's going then.

Black and white TV? Put it this way, if I lived on my own, I wouldn't have a TV, as I rarely watch it.

I agree with you Mike whats wrong with good old map reading. I took a sat nav on holiday to Cornwall with me and it drove me mad it may take you the quickest way but it's not always the best when it comes to the standard of roads.

The other week I went to Croft followed a mate who had his sat nav it it took us dow a private road and through a farm the owner wasn't to happy but it wasn't just us there was about 5 sseperate cars all parked in a row at his gate He said your sat navs will say this is a public road but it isn't I dread to think how many people he had coming through that day as there were about 30,000 people heading to Croft.

I think it's only the series that begin 5, 7 & 9 that do that but it's a really good feature and you don't need to look at the device as much.

Next time your friend turns on his satnav, tell him not to turn off his common sense.

I would also thoroughly check that your existing phone is compatible with the Sat Nav you are wanting to buy.

Don't assume that because you have a new model phone, that it will Bluetooth to any sat Nav. They don't all link.

satnavs are a guide, they dont turn the steering wheel for you and believe it or not you can ignore their advice. Tomtoms will re-calc the route 7 seconds after they realise you havent followed their route.

The tomtom 520 is cheap at the moment and halfords have a sale on, upto 50% off.
