Article in the Northern Irish press, Lurgan Mail, that Defender Michael McKerr is coming to us on trial.

McKerr signed for Birmingham City in 2007 from Glenavon for £250K but things didn't work out and has been on loan at teams like Redditch United and Dundalk (playing as a winger) before, I assume, being released this summer.

Hope we dont sign him.

Nowt against the lad - never heard of him but i thought we are after strikers and strikers only.

if we're saying that we're looking at other postions as well then I'd rather we'd of gone for Jimmy Ryan from Accy who is quality and we could of got if we'd pushed it. Also wilson from Chester, left wingback whos a good player in a position we're not blessed with lots of specialist cover for

unless this lad can cover in a few positions I dont know why we're bothering even looking at him

We are already trialing a central defender and a couple of strikers.

I'm not against giving anybody a trial providing that if we sign them, that they are better than what we've already got.

Having just read about the Rangers bid some while ago, he certainly sounds as though he has the ability to be worthy of an extended trial. BUT I'd much prefer our attentions be devoted to bringing in some strikers providing that they have proven pedigree.

Radio Lancashire claim that there will hopefully be some action over the next few days.

Nothing wrong with strengthening other areas of the team so long as Sammy is confident he'll bring in a decent striker.

Maybe the 4 players Sammy said he'd bring in don't include Duffy? (ie Moss, this centre back and 2 strikers).

i hope we don't sign yet another center half!! err Artel Benteley McStay Parrish & Adams when we play him as a 3rd and didn't really need to sign a right back in Moss, seeing it's wing-backs we've been playing



its left-footed player who's not overweight who can run up & down as a wing-back we need!! and a striker goes without saying

I don't think we should be looking at any players in other position untill we have signed at least 1 striker

Are you saying that if an opportunity to sign a top midfield playmaker came up for example, we should say thanks but no thanks, because our priority is a striker?

I agree with him. We tried the whole "sign anybody who plays in any position just to make up the numbers" approach last season and it didn't work.

nah i don't think he is.. he's just meaning we should be concentrating looking for a striker

Didn't it? So what part of just missing out on the play offs and finishing 11th means that the approach last season didn't work?

err the part not getting into the play-offs or the other part like Exeter the team we beat at Wembley, who got promoted!

The part when we recalled certain players who didn't get a look-in for the first 3 months due to the number of duff players we signed during the summer...

Sorry but it's not - and that's exactly what I'm saying. We know where we need to strengthen and that's not in centre-backs its in strikers and if we use up our squad budget on any othger position then we wont be able tobring in strikers either now or in january.

And as i say if we were going to look at other positions we should of gone for Ryan, Sammy said he wanted two strikers and thats it - if he doesnt bring them in now then we've missed out on ryan.

When we had the transfer embargo due to paying more than 60 per cent of our income on wages

I suspect that our restriction could be even less this season due to a reduction in income last season.

This could have serious implications as Sammy attempts to compete for strikers against more wealthier clubs.

Ignore the money from the ground deal as I wouldn't be suprised if the final costs for the stadium exceed original expectations. Despite the credit crunch, the construction industry in certain quarters is still in a healthier state than was predicted according to a major construction client of our company. This means that construction costs are still on the increase albeit not at the same level as pre credit crunch.

So do we know anyone else on trial???

No I am not saying if we had the chance to sign a top player then we should turn them down I am saying that we should focus on getting the players we need then once we have got the vital signings sorted we can then look a other positions
