Some people were saying on friday evening that the club were due to sign a centre forward over the weekend, its evening time on wednesday and still no news regarding the signing, can we presume that this so called signing is not going to happen anytime soon ????

I know that CC but while other teams are signing players we "appear" to be lagging behind on this front.

Says in the Visitor that we are still in talks with two strikers - both of whom have played at a higher level. Either negotiations are just taking longer than usual or the agents are stalling for whatever reason :(

We have only a limited amount of money to spend. Sammy has to get the best deals he can, knowing that his targets will also be on the radar of other clubs.

Very few of other club signings have really made me think 'wow'....

Be patient I've a feeling that a lot is going on behind the scenes.

Remember the Howe deal and when it was announced last season?

Also there are 3 on trial.... ;) ;) ;)

id like us to look at trainee's released off top prem clubs who might not be just quiet good enough at that level

but bring youth & aggression to the team and potentially revenue for the club if they do prove themselfs

just a few -->

I think there are some good teams in our division this season, the one's that came down together with the usual suspects ie Bury Rochdale Bradford etc etc, we need a good start with a settled team

In a perfect world we'd all agree.

But once again SURVIVAL is first and foremost..then take it from there

With the squad we have now, we'll go backwards (probably 13th - 17th). A lot of teams 'seem' to be improving their squads much quicker than us (including teams who have similar budget restrictions) and we won't have point reductions giving us a false position this season. We struggled to get goals last season and I honestly don't see where they are going to come from (at present).

Surely signfngs help sell season tickets how are sales going compared with last season , the more sales more money for decent signings .I dare say a lot of people will be waiting to see whether improvements are being made to the team . Where are the signings we need

I am concerned about the lack of signings we have a few players the wrong side of 30, and think we will be closer to the bottom than top unless we sort out the striker problem.

for sure, you only have to look at the start of last season everybody was even complaing then, about how many draws we was getting, and not scoring enough goals, and that was with + R Howe & D O'Carrol to play around with what little we've got now

Same old story as last year, lots of promises but no real quality act in. i hope to eat my words but this year looks more lacklustre than last. Perhaps its out geographical location!

BUT ..... lets hold our breadth in anticipatipation, i will still be there to support whoever graces the Old Christie park!

As someone has already said, the better players will hold their cards close to their chest and sign as late as possible in an attempt to get a better deal.

And we know that Sammy is in talks with two strikers so I'd give it a bit longer. Also, Howe was a good player but he was top scorer with only about 11 goals (plus he was our penalty taker) so in terms of goalscoring ability, I'm pretty confident we'll improve in that area.

James - last 4-5 years we have been preety poor upfront. time for a decent striker or perhaps a change in tactics where we attack rather than a hold policy.

But lets face it we are a small club trying our best to do with what resources we have.

its about making chances for the strikers and the thing is we don't get enough balls across the goal mouth from wide positions, so no matter who we sign he will have the same problems as R Howe

this is way i keep harping on about a left-footed player who can cross a ball, we've got plenty of cover now on the right-side

I agree that we don't make enough chances but IMO, we need strikers for a couple of reasons....

1. Three Strikers just isn't enough - especially when one is not ready to play in the first team week in, week out. If nothing else, I'd hope that we sign an unknown just to have some cover.

2. I'd hope we can get a striker who makes chances himself - either through flick on's, off the ball movement or direct running.

Water you on about? Surely we should be flowing towards the play offs? Are you tapped?

Anyway, we'll sea.

Who you talking about?

Villa, Sunderland, Tottenham and about 30 other teams who have let loads go but not signed anyone?

As has been said previous they are all weighing up their options. We're after strikers who will come to us for what we're offering and are clearly better than what we've got. say what you want but they are not ten a penny. if we dont get one or two soon then we'd be better getting another loan or two in for a season or half a season than panic-signing someone whose no better than weve got
