For those of you who are interested, the squad have been at the college for the best part of the day being weighed and checked for general fitness levels. Tomorrow sees the return of Sammy when pre-season training will kick in 'big style'.
Next week all the training will be based at University of Lancaster on an area just in front of Bailrigg House.
The lads look extremely professional in their new training gear which in my opinion is probably the best I've seen since we went full time.
A total of 16 squad players plus 2 new first year pros (Poole and Jackson) were there, but no trialists or unknowns.
Spoke to Mark Lillis who is delighted with their general fitness levels after the summer break. He and Sammy were disappinted about the Curtis Allen affair as it sounds as though contact and talks with the player and his agent had been on-going since May. A limited number of trialists may be down next week, but certainly not in the numbers of last pre-season. Mark seems to want a smaller but more versatile squad this term. Probably in line with the majority of other clubs.
The new players have not been introduced to the delights of 'The Wheelie Bin' but have been told that they have to perform in the next few days. Evidently Moss is a bit of a magician and as Mark said 'as long as he can produce a bit of magic on the field..he'll do...'
On the subject of new strikers, Mark suggested that if he was 2 stone lighter and 20 years younger he'd be in there...!
