Released Players

Curtis Obeng, recently released by my other team is worth looking at...do we actually have a scout within the club, if so then this young defender is available on a free and has bags of potential and could do a job whilst Bentley is out and then providing cover if and when Jimbo gets back in the team...
Michael Mifsud, recently released by Coventry is a decent player - 16 in 86 for a Championship striker may not be brill but he could give us a couple of seasons at this level.
Burnley have released Steve Jones, formerly of Leigh and Crewe - 32, striker who scored 37 in 82 whilst at Hilton Park.
Frazer Richardson, let go by Leeds - a decent defender / midfielder, only 26 and has plenty of experience.
Finally, 21 yr old striker James Sinclair, 5'9'' left Bolton this summer.
Is our scouting network able to look into these lads??

Whatever scouting options we have available probably don't read messageboards for pointers.

I appreciate that but people go on about a lack of striking options, these are just some of those available for nothing and i was just hoping the club would be putting their finger 'in the pie' as it were.

I seem to remember him from a while back were we intrested in him back in the JH days must have been a good few years ago now.

And was on loan at Bradford last year.
I think we are ONLY looking at strikers now - and we want two.
Mifsud being linked with Leeds - doubt he'd drop two divisions.
James Sinclair currently on trial with Chicago Fire in MLS

I thought he was Shrimper, however i wasn't so sure it was him.
The young lad at Chicago?? I don't know whether league 2 is of a similar level to the mls but it suprises me that he's gone over there!
If Mifsud is off to Leeds then thats his wrongdoing..." your'e on 'wrong side o' dales lad!!
Have you heard anymore Glen?

Not at the moment.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if the club now stays quiet for a bit until deals are signed and sealed.
And I wouldn't blame them. Having got Mossy they will be working hard to get two strikers in - but I think Sammy will only do that if he's absolutely sure they can add something new to the team.
I just hope players like Stanners, Drummy, Duffy and Wainwright can hit the ground running. They were never on form (or fit) all at the same time last season.
If they can get it together all at once we won't be too badly off, with Hunter and Fraser in the mix as well.
Up front Wayne always gives us 100% and I still cling to the hope of Twissy getting his second wind for a final season or three - I'd be delighted if he did.
Still like us to get these new strikers in but they do need to be good 'uns - Sammy will be comparing them with Wayne, Twissy and Aaron before taking the plunge.

Not much of a comparison, then
Curtis is a good squad player but any striker is better than him. Twiss' best years are behind him. He certainly won't get the number of goals we need. The only striker we have who might score goals on a consistent basis is Taylor but is he ready for a full-season? I don't care who the strikers are, we just need them.

Sure you'll be saying that if we sign a pair of duffers (or should that be ruffers?)

Patchy as Sammy's record is, even he couldn't get TWO strikers so badly wrong so I'm confident that won't happen

All I'm saying is that he'll need to be very confident indeed that they can be an improvement on what we've got (particularly in the case of the 'experienced' striker). Some of the names I've heard, I wouldn't be sure that they would be adding anything.
On the evidence of last season then Twissy does have a lot to prove - but he may just sort himself out and do that. If not he'll be kicking his heels for the rest of his contract.
Wayne has his critics but at least we know precisely what we have with him, his attitude on the pitch is spot on and, as I say, anyone coming in will have to be a good improvement - I don't agree that 'any' striker is better.

It would be a joy to see this striker return

....how easily we forget.....
Mr T at his brilliant best. If only he'd have a go more often, he'd be up in the 10s of goals soon.

thing whats gets me on here is when people complain about Twissy not being good enough and still just a conference player
then what about Curtis? why dont people complain about him?
Twissy has had a few injuries and bereavement issue! since promotion he just need a run in the team and is still our only player capable of crossing a first time ball from the left wing, with a LEFT foot

I think Curtis has made the step up to league football very well. He suits the leagues "physicalness" and whilst not a 20 goal a season striker, he's a thorn in the side of any defence and a useful player for us.
As for Twiss, I don't think the step up is as big an issue as some might suggest. He's got the quality to be a successful player at this level but I think personal/confidence issues have just happened at the wrong time for him. His performances at the end of last season were disappointing but I'm glad to see he's lost a bit of weight and might be a bit quicker this season. If he gets in the right "new season, clean slate" mindset, he could tear this league apart. Look at Jack Lester at Chesterfield - now into his thirties and not the fastest but still a devastating force on the ball and I think Twiss has at least the same amount of ability - if not more. Its all about his attitude and confidence going into 09/10 IMO.

I think if all goes well we could get quite a few goals from Twiss this season he is a fantastic player its just the last couple of seasons his mind has been on other things
