O/T Wanted, Expert Marksman or Ingenious Solutions

Postby Gnasher » Sun Jun 28, 2009 9:14 am

The eaves of the house are quite wide and a bedroom window has a flat bay roof which means there's some flat shelter under the eaves. Some pigeons have decided to make it their home.

Constant soakings with a hose only send them away briefly, soaking them as they settle down to roost for a few consecutive nights is also supposed to move them away permanently, not these flying rats.

The flat roof was then filled with pigeon spikes. They pulled them up in some places and frequently drop into the very small gaps between the spikes.

The spikes have been put back twice but they still manage to pull them up or move them enough to drop in.

Now the spikes have been topped with netting and guess what, they have pulled the netting apart enough to get under it. They can't stomp up & down like they used to but they still make enough noise to wake the house at dawn.

So there you have it, anyone with an air rifle or some other idea of getting rid of the flying rats? You'll be doing the street a favour because on those rare occassions I manage to deter them for a few nights, they use a neighbours roof.

You could try doing a Shaun Ryder by Soaking bread with rat poison and then go feed the birds.

Or just embrace your new friends....

I bet they have been enticed in your direction from the Winter Gardens! No, seriously that must be a real ballache ;)

Try someone like this, if you have not already done so

In the meantime you might have a use for this

When I saw Marky No 1 had replied I was ready for being offered an old caravan for them to sleep in

I'd posion them but I'd be in trouble if a cat then ate the dead pigeon full of rat poison. I don't think shooting them is legal in a public street. Let's see what environmental health can do about them.

Yes that is very possible providing you donate £75 although I think your neighbours would prefer to see their cat getting poisoned than looking at your latest trailer!

You want the council to help you?

Whoever can guarantee to get rid of them at a decent price is welcome to try. There's also laws as to how far you can go yourself to get rid of pests, hopefully I'll be told the details when they reply.

Anyone know a local person or company that would guarantee getting rid of them?

Crush up some paracetamol and add a bit of water so it makes a kind of paste, spread it on some bread an feed it to them, the paracetamol gives off a gas when it reacts in the stomach and pigeons have no way of getting rid of the gas because they cant burp or fart!
Pigeons expand like baloons and go BANG! Problem solved and some entertainment!
Rice does a similar thing aswell, and unlike the rat poison from before if the cat eats some then they just dont feel pain for a while :D

The cat problem is if they find and eat the poison filled dead pigeon. No problem putting food where only the pigeons can get to it.

Or you could use steradent tablets crushed up for the same effect....
baking powder another option ...should inflate the pigeons nicely....
failing that ...get hold of an air rifle .22 ...hope its not plastic guttering....could get messy... :o
