It's being suggested on the Football Forum that the striker we could be about to sign is one Rob Boulding, brother of present Bradford striker Michael Boulding.

If it is him then I just hope his brother can be persuaded to be part of the deal. Both Mansfield and Bradford fans don't rate him one bit! Whereas Michael has a proven track record in League 2.

That must be a carrot move for Michael surely.......we cant just want the crap Boulding

Rory Boulding 20 years old, only scored once for Mansfield, doesn't really sound like a promising young striker.

i also heard this afternoon on BBC Radio Lancashire, that a unnamed striker as agreed to join us next week, and SM had describe him as a "good prospect"


so id go as far as saying he's young and not proven

Just hope that whoever it is, he's given games to prove himself.

Just a pity that a target preferred the 'big boys' of Bradford.

Wouldn't suprise me if we also get an experienced striker in on a season long loan.

he allways looked class when i seen him, no pace but could do everything else you would ask of a forward player

..something that we and I include myself, tend to overlook as a contributing factor when a manager has to decide about who to keep aand who to let go.

I'd rather we freed up 3 wages on 'also rans' or 'bench warmers' and put all the money together to pay for an accomplished targeted player.

In repect of the last three posts. First of all it's funny how there can be such a wide divergence of opinion on a player. Diarmuid O'Carroll in my opinion (and those I watch the games with) did not have the cutting edge to be a football league standard player nor did his general support play warrant keeping him. I do agree that his credentials prior to joining us appeared to be worth taking a punt with him on a no doubt beter than average Division 2 wage, however he failed to reach the standard required and in my opinion and more to the point the managers opinion he became surplus to requirements. For those who argue that he wasn't given enough starts to really prove himself the simple truth is that Sammy didn't feel his performances warranted a regular starting role and I for one agree.

Having freed up his and Matty Blinkhorns salaries the tricky, nay dammed difficult task commences of obtaining the services of a proven football league goal scorer. The trouble with that of course is the proven ones come at a premium and can usually take their pick of several clubs.

The way ahead may be the season long loan market ala Rene Howe. Whilst not perfect it is definitely one way of obtaining a bit of quality from further up the food chain at affordable cost. It certainly didn't do Hereford any harm the season before last when they went up with several loan players as regulars.

In a strange way the collapse of Setanta may assist with this. For instance Scott Rendell did a season long load up front at Cambridge from Peterborough and by all accounts did well. I'm sure Cambridge and other leading lights in the Conference must have had him firmly in their sights for next season but losing the Setanta money may well cause many to recalculate their spending plans and give the likes of us more of a chance of getting decent players such as him at a reasonable cost.
