Anyone know what is going on at Tibicar Service Station in Oxcliffe Road. Not for the first time shut, only on this occasion security fencing around it to stop anyone entering.

its been cash only for all sales for some months now which suggests financial problems.

AFAIK, fuel for garages has to be paid for up-front before they will deliver. Cash only does suggest financial problems but if they've been doing that for a few months then they've at least been managing to pay the fuel costs. A shame if another local garage closes, not many left to choose from and the queues at supermarket pumps are ridiculous (not that Shell Caton Rd is any better, even at 6am!).

And they have had 'no fuel' notices on display on several occasions.

The place has now officially closed--from what i have heard it will be about 1-2 months before it re-opens. It had been cash only as BP had pulled out and had taken all their card machines out with them
The previous owners have apparently sold the site and told all the staff that their jobs have gone--yet more unemployed for the local area.

I know it's a vicious circle, but it was the dearest one for miles around. So I'm sorry but I never used it. Had they competed in terms of fuel price I might have had some sympathy. I find that BP usually are the dearest anyway.

And items in the shop tended to be very expensive. I always use the Post office/Store 100 yards up the road for papers and bits and pieces.

also rather worrying from the same area is the sign in the best Chinese takeaway in Morecambe (Chengs) that they are "closed until further notice"

Just to put an end to rumour mongering,Shengs is shut till probably next week ,not because of health inspectors but because woks only brother died suddenly last week.I dont think he reads this board, but i wish people would get facts right before posting about something they know nothing about.

to be fair I said it was the best Chinese Takeaway in Morecambe and that it was unfortunately closed until further notice.

The comment after should be zapped as it is libellous.

I tried to ring Shengs two weeks ago and there was an answer phone message saying there had been a death in the family and tried this weekend and it was still closed.

It is the best by miles with fried Wok in lancastre coming a very distant second.

:o :o

Shengs is horrendous. You get so much MSG that you can scrape it off your tongue for a week. Chinese food with free headache. All the starters are cook from frozen and the veg was probably fresh when Victoria was on the throne. As for Fired Wok, your Fried Wok is much more accurate.

The West Lake on Scotforth Road is OK to good. Golden Dragon is similar but I've heard rumours so avoid it. The best I've had is through a random one in Morecambe I phoned when I lived in Heysham and was excellent but lost the menu and can't remember the name.

I find that Chinese food these days leaves a horrible after taste that stays with you for ages.

On the other hand Indian food from a good source doesn't leave me with any lingering problems.... ;) ;) ;)

The British Raj take away in Kendal is superb as is the Thai just a couple hundred yards up the road.

The Chinese in Torrisholme (opposite the swings) does an excellent vegetarian curry (106).

Work is ongoing at a rate of knots.

Shopfitters are in there and I assume it will re-open before long.

Not obvious at this stage which retailer is going to operate it.

Well if it is a b.p petrol station, you will know that it will still be a high price for their fuel.
