Ebbsfleet are controlled by the shareholders who have a vote on all such matters. The Directors do not have the final say.

Less 30% sell on fee due to Cambridge United = £29400

And that is the conundrum. Where does the money come from? Not the gates. Would we want to see us splash money we do not have? Dont even think about the Sainsbury's money. That is for the ground move.

We need to be real about our expectations. If we dont have the income, we cant splash the cash. Quite rightly.

Ebbsfleet supporters really rate him and with MyFC involvement its created a bit of a bidding war.

Gash...Whoa Ho...He'll save everyone of us.....

Fond memories from one of my favourite away days. Twissy's goal still the best I've seen from a Morecambe side.

Gash...well he must have improved.

I'm glad we've had the bid turned down. We need players that are proven at this level, not ones that are mediocre at the level below.

Redredwine your talking rubbish if the guy was mediocre why are so many clubs after signing him and as signing players from lower leagues peterborough seemed to have done alright with a team full of ex non leaguers

There is nothing wrong at all with signing players from the level below, I have not said that. It is the standard of player that is the difference and my memory of Gash and looking at his record since does not inspire me to think he is going to solve our biggest problem last season, which was scoring goals.

peterborough seemed to have done alright with a team full of ex non leaguers

The comparison to what Peterborough did and the bid for Gash is ridiculous IMO. Posh snapped up mostly players that were recognised as the cream of non-league. Not players like Gash who has been deemed not good enough for Cambridge United. That says it all in my view; not good enough for a team pushing and ultimately failing to reach the level we currently occupy, whist at the same time not having an earth shattering record at Ebbsfleet whom he has ended up with.

Out of interest who are the clubs wanting to sign him? York tried to, but then again they only just avoided relegation to the conference North last season.

I'm sorry, but I just can't get excited by signings such as Gash. I would rather we brought Carlton in for free than piss the boards money up the wall and have another gamble on a relative unknown. We have already bought Duffy, who I think could potentially be a good player for us given time but he is still a gamble based on what I have seen so far. I don't think we can afford the luxury of taking too many over the course of a season (our poor start to the last season springs to mind, after the gamble of Carr failed spectacularly).

We need somebody who has a proven record at Legaue Two level, and if money is available then for me this is the characteristic above all that should be invested in. £42k is quite a lot in the current climate for a club at our level for what we are buying (we could have picked up a few players that would have excited the fans for free). We need a finisher.

It seems a lot to gamble on an unproven player at this level, but at the end of the day Sammy will be judged on results and if he has the confidence that the guy is worth it the Board must back him.

I know nothing about the player but would he be prepared to re-locate North?

Personally I'd much prefer to go for a Northern based player, somebody like Evans at Macc as an example.

£42,000 is way too much to be bidding for an unproven player.

Unproven players before making step up george boyd, craig mccail smith, aaron mcclean, micheal knightly - give the lad a chance if we sign him for gods sake sure there are loads more i could add to list Carl baker, gary thompson and charli mcdonald to name a few-thats unproven at league level not non league

Suley this lad can't be worth the same as carl baker what did we pay for him about 30kish?

I think we are really going to struggle to get 2 strikers it's hard enough finding one 20+ a season man.

But that's what management is all about. Watching a player, assessing his potential, judging if they might make the step up to a higher league and then pursuing the ones you want for the amount you think they're worth in relation to other players.

Either way, the deal is dead in the water. That's football, we move our focus onto other players, who's clubs now know what we're prepared to pay. Would rather there was no speculation at all until the deal was one.

Puts it all into perspective though when we wont go above £42,000 (quite rightly by the way) and Real Madrid don't think twice about spending £80,000,000 on a no doubt brilliant player with a penchant for impersonating Greg Luganis.

A Football Forum poster by the name of 'Morecambe- Pride of Lancashire-Wembley 2007' claims he knows the name of the striker whose present club have agreed a fee with our Board for a 20 goals a season striker to join us. Evidently it's NOT the Ebbsfleet guy. He would have been in addition to the unmaned player.

Maybe he/she would care to divulge his info so that we can all share in this (wonderful) news.... :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

Given that any 20+ striker in League One or better is way out of our league (pardon the pun) then the only 20+ strikers from last season in either league two or blue square prem were:

Simeon Jackson ( Gills) 21
Grant Holt (Shrews) 20
Jack Lester (chesterfield) 20

Andrew Mangan (FGR) 26
James Constable (Oxford utd) 23
Steve Morison (stevenage) 22
Charlie Griffin (salisbury city) 21
Matthew Barnes-Homer (Kiddy) 20
Jack Midson (Histon) 20

Unless we mean nearly 20, in which case it could be anybody. Danny Ecob hasn't left the forces has he?
