Why not have a great family day out? The kids will love it!

British Touring Car Championship weekend at Oulton Park near Tarporley in Cheshire - May 30th/31st.

https://tickets.motorsportvision.co.uk/calendar/race-event-details.asp?ProductID=3727

At the event local team Coastal Racing will be competing with 4 cars out in the Renaultsport Clio Cup which is the highest profile one-make tin top series in the UK.

The team is owned by Morecambe fan Carl Bradley. Carl got his first podium of the year last weekend at Donington Park 8-)

Come along and see a team member in our awning, tell them you're a Morecambe fan and we'll show you round the cars and might even make you a brew!

I will be there and can't wait, must be 10-15 years since I went to the touring cars. Type of lost intrest in it as it as it seemed to loose it way a bit but now seems to be getting popular again. Also good with the likes of James Thompson coming back from World Touring Cars, Jason Plato and Matt Neil still about.

Carl has done well this season and always look out for his results, one of their cars was involved in a crash at Brands Hatch was it Carl? Will come and try and find your awaning in the paddock.

Also two formula renault races maybe you will see the next Lewis Hamilton

Only £23 for the day and free for kids under 12 bargin!

Talking of touring cars any one see this at the weekend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wGG4R5zjjg an amazing first lap rounded off by someone smashing into the saftey car!

This sounds like a cracking day out now the footy has finished. Never been before so a few questions.

Is there plenty of parking near the track? My only experience of motorsport was when Brands Hatch still had the British Formula 1 Grand Prix. The nearest parking we could get was 4 miles away and the only way to the track from there was on foot.

Is it best to buy tickets in advance or on the day?

When you say you wouldn't mind Morecambe fans having a look at the cars close up in your awning then that sounds great. However how accessible are these areas? At some motor sport events you'd need security clearance to get anywhere near. Is this event different?

Burnley Shrimps I will have a stab at answering your question but it's years since I have been.

I believe there are three entrances to the ciruit and they all have car parks near by. I think there may be even some parking inside the circuit but not sure if this is for Disabled/VIP people only.

I found this website very helpful for info http://www.driving-days.co.uk/oulton-park-circuit.php

When we used to go we nearly always went to Knickerbrook you get to see a lot of the track from there and the odd smash up at the chicane as they all try and fit through it.

Lodge Corner is also decent as you sometimes see them trying to outbrake each other and overtake just before the start finish straight and if your lucky one will get shunted off into the gravel trap infron of you.

There used to be designated times when you go into the paddocks and have a look round. back in the day the touring car drivers used to have a designated hour where you could walk down the pit lane and there was an autograph session where they all sat outside the garages giving away posters etc. I think this will probably be an hour or so before racing starts for a guess. Regarding the rest of the paddock which is where Costal will be I think you might be able to walk round here at anytime but I am not 100% sure.
It's deff worth a walk round and getting there early as you should get loads of free goodies for the kids I still have all mine stored away somewhere from all those years ago.

I always remember when Matt Neil was sponsored by Max Power as an Independant and the Max Power models used to stand outside his garage and their clothes were painted on :o far to much for a young 14/15 year old to take in.

Hopefully 4G63 will eb able to fill in any gaps I have missed.

Yeah it was Carl involved in the incident at clearways. It’s quite ironic really as the other driver involved (who looked a bit dazed!) was a lad we ran last year in the championship, his family are very good friends of ours, and thankfully he was just a bit concussed after hitting his head on the cage in the impact.

Other championships on are the following:

BTCC (Obviously)
Formula Renault 2.0
Porsche Carrera Cup GB
Ginetta G50 Championship – another local(ish) driver competes in this. Frank Wrathall, from Garstang. If anyone is into their bikes, they will know his old man’s company FW Developments.
Ginetta Juniors – 14 to 17 year olds let loose on a circuit. Makes for good racing!

There is plenty of parking on the perimeter of the circuit. IIRC only pass holders can get in the main entrance and park on the inside of the circuit. There are other entrances at Knickerbrook and Lodge.

The only area out of bounds for the public is the pit lane and inside the garages, although there is pit/grid walk at lunchtime on Sunday where the public have the opportunity to meet BTCC drivers and get their autographs etc. Some of the BTCC drivers are top blokes and are always willing to spare a couple of minutes for a chat. Martyn Bell being an example. He has lots of fans.

When I mention about Morecambe fans, come find our awning in the support paddock. Just look for the sea of red shirts, and the huge setup and that’ll be us. If you mention you are Morecambe fans we will let you inside the awning and have a look at the cars etc. Might even let you get a brew in our hospitality awning.

Its always good to see people from Morecambe at races. On Saturday we were in Castle Donington in the evening coming back from an Indian, and some people from Morecambe were cheering us in the street. Brightens up the weekend a little.

There are still lots of grid girls around, some looking a little bit more classy than the Max Power girls!

Next weekend, this lot start practising...

I know the Steam Racket are a bunch of robbing gits, but you could get a day trip to the Isle for about £40 from Heysham, so do the cars one weekend and then watch McGuinness fly by the following Saturday! Try counting how often the commentary team mention Morecambe, it's like Nigel Clough's Burton Albion, they can't help but say Morecambe's John McGuinness!

Keith, i'd love to go over to the IOM to watch the TT. I went over in my car in March with 18 others with the same type of car, and absolutely loved nailing it over the mountain! One can only imaging how awesome it would be to watch the bikes!

Beer at the Creg Ny Baa watching McGuiness do his stuff, bet its brilliant!

Keith how has John done this year apart from the TT you never hear much about him during the rest of the year, did he have a good season?

I see Oulton Park was named as the best track in England to watch bike racing because of all the crests and dips. Watched the British Superbikes on the TV the other week from there and it looked great.

Oulton Park is fantastic for bikes. I went to watch the BSB there a few weeks ago. John McGuiness got third in the Superstock race - first podium in 3 years i think.

Its great watching the bikes coming out of shell corner, through the little chicane then nailing it down to Knickerbrook... in the wet. So much skill! You dont appreciate how fast they are going on TV until you watch it in real life.

Not just me Phil, we all had a strange experience!! Strangely for me I don't recall cheering anyone, but if one of the drunken rabble looked like Harry Potter, then it's me
I have to agree, it's always a great weekend from my experiences no matter which track you attend, and although Donington was my first event of the season, the other guys always make a beeline for the Coastal Racing area.

Next time you see us, you should start shouting "up the Shrimps!" instead!

I recall the lady shouting "Look its that Coastal Racing 'lot' from Morecambe"

Which Indian did you go to? The one on the left, or the one on the opposite side of the road?

Martyn Bell fan then?!

 Best never mentioned again Bez! :D
Hope you guys enjoyed your curry as much as we did.

I try to make a point of going over to Coastal and let them know we'll be shouting for them.
The last lap from Carl at Donny was an absolute peach and was worth the entrance fee alone (if we'd had to pay). He drove well at Brands but was just unlucky and drove well at Thruxton but was just *cough* "having fun!" :D
Carl will see a lot more silverware so if you can't get to Oulton or any other race weekend you can always watch him live on ITV4 on the Sunday.

Milk and no suger please. See you next week.

That finish was awesome. I was like a small child egging him on from the pitwall. He didn't realise he had got third until we told him when he came into the pits/parc ferme.

Carl would've been up there again at Thruxton had it not been for a dodgy intermittent misfire. Thought we had resolved it after race one, but it came back again on the green flag lap for race two. Sods law that you get a top end misfire on the quickest circuit in the UK!

hope the weather for next weekend will be like last year at Oulton its the best track for viewing and action i think.hope Carl can push on from Donnington, think there will be 7 of us there to give him some support and we will be a little bit more sober than the last time we meet   sees you saturday or friday night in the bar might be a band on again?

There will be a lot of Carl Bradley fans there, thats for sure.

where is the bar at Oulton? Never been in it before! Is it in the Foggy Moss centre?

Dream for us would be 3 of the drivers on the podium in one race. That's our ultimate goal for this year, although it will be difficult. Phil Glew seems unstoppable at the moment (apart from when he ran out of talent in Race 2 at Donny lol).
