Regional League 1 & 2 Anyone?

Carlisle must be desperate to play us

Don't know how promotion would work - maybe a play off situation between North and South?

This would mean we would be in the same League as:
Leeds
Carlisle
Hartlepool
Tranmere
Huddersfield
Stockport
Scunthorpe?
Norwich?

A long time ago there used to be Division 3 North and Division 3 South.

I don't think that's really needed now. Transport links are much better and whilst it would save a bit for some clubs, the fact is, one league would be stronger than the other, so if, say the South league was weaker, it would be easier to get into the Championship, which is clearly not fair.

Edit: They could also join the Scottish League, like that other English team Berwick Rangers did, if they're that bothered about travelling. Might even get into Europe eventually given that tin pot league. They'd instantly be the 7th or 8th best supported team in Scotland!

Personally i think its a good idea, at least at league two and below. Certainly in financial terms it
makes sense, more away support, less travel costs and no need for teams to stay over night.

Larger crowds also tend to lead to a better atmosphere and there just seems to be a greater
interest when we are playing a northern team.

If we had League 1 (& 2) North we would be! The above teams would replace Bournemouth, Torquay, Cheltenham, Hereford, Dagenham, Barnet, Aldershot, Gillingham?

You can understand the benefit of such a change to Clubs like Carlisle and Barrow that have a huge expense for travelling (players & fans) - but we love our long away trips don't we :D

What would happen with relegation from the League above?
If all relegated teams were from the South then how would this affect the North?
Would end up with floating North/South teams like we do now in the JPT.
Nice idea but not easy to implement

They manage it easily enough in the Conference North and South divisions which feed into the Conference national. Sides like Worcester City (located fairly centrally) periodically switch between the divisions, depending on the locations of the other sites operating at that level.

Personally I think the structure is fine how it is. We currently play at a level where we can compete. Put us in with Leeds etc and I can quickly see this not being the case.

Leave Div 1 but split div 2 into South and North.
Promotion, Top 2 1 from South and 1 from north so if Barnet in the south finish 1st they're promoted. If Morecambe are the top north team and finish 11th they are promoted.
Same for Conf.
Relegation bottom 2 if Brighton finish last they are relagated the next North team finish 17th they are relegated etc.
also put a line halfay inbetween pen area and halfway,
You cannot be offside inside this line.

Yup, we played them in either the FA Cup or Trophy a few years ago.

Yes. Annan Athletic were elected into the Scottish League to fill the gap.

I think it's not a very good idea because, the teams in the league would be unevenly matched. It would mean having league 1 sides playing league 2 sides which is unfair on the league 2 sides.

1985/86, FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round. Drew at Christie Park, then won the replay.

The owner that bankrolled Gretna has been pronounced bankrupt a year after his death! :o

This makes so much sense it's incredible it's not in place at the moment. The current situation means that clubs towards the midlands can do all their away trips in a day. Therefore a massive financial benefit with not having to shell out on a coach for 2 days, 2 x drivers and hotel bills for 20 plus staff. Add in to that increased crowds with fans having shorter distances to travel to away games then it's got to make sense.

The larger clubs such as Leeds, Norwich, Southampton, Charlton, Sheffield Wednesday etc' will of course pay the regionalised leagues a visit (briefly before they assume their rightful positions further up the leagues) but it would be very nice to play them whilst they are down there!

To me it's a no brainer with clubs currently losing money hand over fist, however it probably makes far too much sense to ever be implemented by the FL.

Im that much against the idea that I'd rather see a sin bin system in place for players who dive and fake injury.
Tho I actually like the thought of drogba missing 10mins for rolling around on the floor then getting back up
