Looking at the stats you should rename this thread 'most average, mid-table league team ever!'

Where did they play to have that sort of capacity?

I recently read of New Brighton's controversial suspension to be replaced by Workington. Does anyone know what happened to them...and were they Tranmere's local derby?

It seems they played adjacent to the "Tower" that was going to rival Blackpool,
which didn't get completed. They lost Football League status, so their ambitious
plans got thwarted and the "Tower", what bit was built, got scrapped, literally!

Went once to New Brighton at some point in the mid- late 60's...think we lost in some league cup. New Brighton had moved from the Lancs Combination to the Cheshire League. As I remember the ground was in similar style to Springfield Park at Wigan, lots of steep banking but not much terracing.

Another anorak stat.... it is 40yrs since the end of the inaugural season of the Northern Premier league 68-69. The top three teams were 1- Macc 2-Wigan Ath 3- Morecambe.

For all the ups and downs in those 40 years, at the end of this season these three are still the top three. Admitted Scarborough and Boston have been up and down.
