Why does the name Carl Baker keep coming to mind? Here's wishing him the best.

They might not avoid it. If the Southampton scenario was anything to go by, they were going to be relegated if they got enough points to stay up. Or if they didn't get the points to technically stay up and be relegated anyway they'd begin next season on -10 points. Using that logic, Stockport should be relegated, unless there's some kind of time period when that isn't an issue anymore.

I think they get the 10 points deducted after the last game now (cos it's after the 'come clean' deadline in March).

If that's enough to relegate them, then they are relegated and start next season clear.

If it's not enough to relegate them, they start next season on minus 10.

I think the idea was to stop teams hanging on until they were safe (even with the deduction) and thereby avoiding any real punishment.

This is my understanding too. This means that they will start next season in Division 1 on minus 10 points because taking them off now would leave them three points above relegation but with a far better goal difference and only one game left.

So how did that work out then?

There would have to be a goal difference swing of 18 for Carlisle to catch them, so looks like a -10 for next season.

Didn't we get £175,000 up front for Carl Baker (with that figure rising to £225,000)?

My understanding is that the 10-point deduction is ONLY carried forward to the following season if a team is relegated anyway a la Southampton. Stockport have been deducted the points as of today according to all the articles I've read. In Stockport's case, I think they'll only start on minus points next season if they are still in administration/fail to meet Football League rules when coming out of administration after a set deadline this summer.

EDIT - This article confirms it...

At the time it was said the fee was £175,000 rising to £225,000 based on performances but no one ever said what targets had to be met for us to get the full amount

Stockports deduction will start next season. Garry Thompson isn't too happy at Scunthorpe (apparently), Stockport are now in administration........ Thommo and Baker anyone ? ;) Hmm, I must be dreaming.

What part of the above article did you misunderstand? Stockport's deduction applies THIS season. They will ONLY be deducted points next season if they fail to meet league regulations when they come out of administration.
