Good photo to start with! You can just see the steel structure in the back ground which is now the base of Blackpool Tower. Should have carried on and built the thing in good old Morecambe. Very shortsighted of someone to move it.

I thought the steel tower was used for war materials?

that was my understanding too. Also, when you walk down many roads in Morecambe there are stumps of metal where the railings were cut away for ammunition too (IIRC good examples opposite the Bath Hotel, but many other places too).

We had a tower before Blackpool, illuminations before Blackpool, bingo before Blackpool, seaside rock before Blackpool, a drug infested slum area before Blackpool...

....and not so long ago,
How I wondered where they'd gone,
But they're back again
Just like a long lost friend,
All the songs I loved so well.......

Every Sha-la-la-la
Every Wo-o-wo-o
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're startin' to sing's
So fine
