Looks as though Pawel Abbott could be available on a free from Darlo this summer if they can't find a buyer before 20 April.
Reckoned by the Darlo fans to be the best striker in League 2 he has had injury problems this season but he's still a class above the rest in our league for me. His brother was on our books a few seasons ago but was never given the chance to shine.
IF Rene decides his future is elsewhere then maybe PW could be one to consider.

Inclined to agree with your estimation....a class act indeed.

Think he could be a really good signing if we were able to get our hands on him

How will our directors and management play it next season?
We are arguably fairly sound financially (unlike a lot of other clubs).
A large proportion of the Sainsburys cash will obviously go towards the new development, however the influx of this cash potentially overcomes the salary cap obstacles of this season (despite crowd size reductions) and may well give us the spending power to obtain the quality signings (possibly being released by 'larger' clubs who are feeling the financial squeeze).
This all of course depends on how the Directors decide to play it and how they play the balance between the new development and the playing resources .
If we were to look at increasing the overall quality of the squad to make a push next season then the harsh realities would dictate that certain players would have to be released. There is no room for sentimentality if a club is to progress.
For me I'm afraid Michael Howard (injury prone recently and never in the same class as Adams), Blinky ( very good in the Conference but out of his depth in Div 2), Twissy (on the whole has struggled this season and another who may have a couple of good seasons left in the conference but overall not Div 2 standard). Also Diarmuid O'Carroll (hasn't really cut the mustard at Div 2 level). All of these would probably be amongst our higher wage earners who in my opinion should be released (contracts permitting). There are others of course but it all depends on how much is available to spend and whether the quality replacements are available to us to raise the overall standard of the squad.
I'm sure all at the club in a position to steer the club forward are committed to that exact cause (finances permitting) and the club is currently delicately poised in what are to say the least turbulent times generally. We just have to trust that the directors and management achieve the balance to improve the infrastructure and playing staff all at the same time. They haven't failed us to date to my knowledge so I guess we can look forward with optimism on all fronts.

How many times have we seen clubs invest heavily in so called quality players only for it to prove to be no magic formula?
I trust out board to act prudently and make more money available next season but not to go overboard in terms of high weekly wages. Remember there will be an abundance of players seeking contracts as clubs off load to reduce their wages bill. This should lead to more realistic salary packages that clubs can afford.

It might be worse than losing Mr Abbott. If they don't get a buyer, even though they are guaranteed to complete their fixures, the entire club may not exist next season. The vultures will be circling whatever happens though.

i don't think we need to make major changes, and spend money for the sake of it just because it's there
our goalkeeper is sound
our defence is sound (pending on Howard)
our Midfield we do need a left sided player who can get early crosses in with a "LEFT" foot
our Forwards id like to sign R Howe, and loan Taylor out to a confrence team to get first team experience, and maybe get shut of Blinkhorn?

Why?
Take Rene's wages out of the equation and apply them to Abbott ?
If we are to progress then this is the type of signing we need.

We didn't have a prayer when some suggested signing Bishop either..
(Does that make it easier?)

Slightly unrelated.......is it public knowledge what we are paying Howe? I assume it is a percentage of the wage he is contracted to by Peterborough, if so how much?

I must confess that Aisle be the first to give praise if we can. Maybe the faithful could pass the collection plate around at our next congregation?

Yeah i think Pawel Abbott is a Class player,Think we should get rid of Blinkhorn(too Injury Prone in my opinion)and Maybe Mclachlan .Would like to see rene Howe make his loan move permanent as i think hes a class player hes got skill, pace to burn and makes good runs.
