NEW USERS, registration approval READ THIS!!!

I'm still having to manually approve new registrations. I'm getting about 20 to 25 per day and as yet, I've not seen a forum update that will save the problem. Some new registrations are obvious, for example they have "shrimp" in the name. Even "Bratford" in the name would be approved quite quickly! Others are easy to ignore, "Faxecoxloyado" has just come through in the last minute.

But there are some user names that are difficult to check if they are genuine or SPAM. If you do not get approval within 24 hours please e-mail me directly, telling me the name you are trying to register. E-mail keith.fitton[at]manx.net

Could a security code not be introduced into the registration page or is there already one there, usually this will stop so many trying?

there is/was a security code but someone found a way around it so that SPAM BOTS can automatically register. That's how we ended up with a load of SPAM threads a couple of months ago. Until the forum designers find a way to stop them, I guess I'm stuck with the manual system.

Yup, they are indeed! That's part of the reason for this thread. I used to check any ambiguous registrations but now I'm quite blaze about it, so it's up to new registrants to get in touch with me!

The latest registration is "Sir Fred Goodwin" If its an automated registration it stays deactivated. And if Sir Fred is looking for some light relief while counting his pension, I'm sure he'll be warmly welcomed...

Reminder that *real people* may need to e-mail me if they have an 'interesting name',

Determined bloke... SirFredGoodwin is the latest one. I'm guessing there is a person behind it so it will be activated. And I'm kind of guessing it isn't *that* Sir Fred, which kind of makes me think I'm going to regret this :?

There has been a flurry of new registrations today (not the usual 20 or so daily zxcfertynsjkk or cheapciallis ones that appear in my in box). Could we be playing Bradford soon? :o

"Artell is a legend" is the kind of user name I like (wlecome to the message board Dave's mum). There have been a few new registrations tonight that 'may' be real, not sure. If you registered tonight (Sat 18th) and your account hasn't been approved, drop me an e-mail.

worth bringing this back to the top. A few Barrow & Southport fans joining recently, along with attempts by thirty or so Viagra fans each day.

If you attempted to join but didn't get an approval, drop me a line, you were probably lost in the SPAM.

Need to keep bumping this (why can't we work out how to make it a sticky?)

We are now getting stacks of SPAM registrations but being closed season, very few real ones. If you are a visitor who wants to register, drop me an e-mail if you aren't approved within a couple of days.

To reinforce the point, I decided today to delete all the registration request received since the start of February...

2006 requests have just been deleted!
